It's cool to be positive, but you don't have to abandon intellectual honesty.

You can say "cool that he was talking about LSU, but he doesn't really know what he's talking about."

What is Saban being dishonest about? Dude is tGOAT CFB coach. You really think it was on him and not a kid who can’t legally drink yet?

Apparently you didn't follow his tenure at Miami.

You should not hold a grudge. Hate is wrong. The past is all in the past. Water under the bridge. Forgive and forget.

Nope.

None of it.

Ten years ago today, Nick Saban quit. The NFL got tough, and he ran away to Alabama.

After telling us all he would not be the head coach at Alabama, he was the head coach at Alabama. The next day, he held this press conference:

quote:

My feelings on this subject are simple. I was always a big Nick Saban supporter. I always felt like he was the right guy for this job and that he would right this ship. And now...he's still a good coach...only now he's a quitter and a liar. After only 2 seasons, he quit on the Dolphins. And all this comes after he flat out told the media that he was not interested in the Alabama coaching job. That's the part that really hurts the most. Why lie, Nick?

quote:

I can't ever see Nick coaching in the NFL ever again after this fiasco. How could any NFL owner ever take him seriously again? I just don't see it.

quote:

There are a number of different stories about bizarre and questionable things that happened while with Miami.

Former Dolphins player P.K. Sam added to the list when he tweeted Thursday that Saban once cut him 10 years ago for visiting his dying father.

"Thank you nick saban @AlabamaFTBL. 10 yrs ago today you cut me from the @MiamiDolphins bc I flew home to hug my dad before he died. CLASSY!"

LINK

quote:

He made Dolphins player Manuel Wright cry during training camp. Now there are accusations from a former player, Heath Evans, that Saban stepped over offensive lineman Jeno James when James was on the floor after collapsing after practice.

Evans said while on Miami’s Jorge Sedano Show on 790 The Ticket:

SEDANO: Give me an example of something he did to someone while you were there that made you shake your head, you’re like, "That stuff doesn’t work here."

EVANS: Well, the first day of two-a-days. We had about a three-hour-plus practice in the morning in that south Florida sun. You guys know what it’s like down there in late July, early August. And then that night we had another practice under the lights, if I recall I think it was about from 6 to 9.

Jeno James, our best offensive lineman at the time, comes in and collapses after practice, uh, vomiting all kinds of stuff that would make a billygoat puke, eyes rolled in the back of his head. Myself, about four other lineman are trying to carry him from the locker room, to the training room.

Obviously it’s a moment of panic, everyone, you know, we don’t know if this guy’s, you know, gonna die, I mean, the whole deal. But he’s so big and sweaty and heavy that we actually have to set him down in the hallway between the locker room and the training room.

Nick Saban literally just starts walking in, steps over Jeno James convulsing, doesn’t say a word, doesn’t try to help, goes upstairs, I don’t know what he does. But then obviously they get Jeno trauma-offed to the hospital.

Saban calls a team meeting about 10:30 that night, comes down and says, "You know, the captain of the ship can never show fear or indecision, we’ve always gotta have an answer, and so I had to go upstairs, that’s why I walked over Geno like that, I had to collect my thoughts and decide what’s best for our team."

I recall Saban trying to make him into a WR at one point. Definitely a wtf moment in LSU football history.

He is the GOAT football ball coach but if you think those loose his mind explosions happen only during the games you haven’t been around him.

He gets a pass because he a coach. If he acted like that in a normal job, he would hate the parking lot.

Is Joe Burrow a quitter too? What about Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts, or any other transfer? Maybe people go where they fit best and have the best opportunities. No shame in that.

The NFL is a different game. Saban tried it, and failed. So did Spurrier. Doesn't mean they're bad coaches or quitters. The pro game didn't work out for their particular styles. So they came back to the college game.

Much like if you left your job at a startup to go work for a big company. You may find that it doesn't fit, so you leave to go back to the startup world.

Doesn't mean you're a quitter. Just going where you fit the best.

He missed games with injuries. Also ran track. Maybe saban thought he didn't concentrate enough on football at the time?

What a ridiculous parallel. You are talking about players trying to get playing time so they an get drafted vs a coach being paid a fortune to do a freaking job.

You left off the part where he lied about it the day before he announced he was leaving. I've left jobs for better opportunities and was always honest with my employer. I certainly didn't lie to them about interviewing and accepting a job. Ironically Saban was a bit of a douche to Dan Enos last season and he did the same to Nicky. Cleaned his office out and left without telling him and Saban went ballistic. What comes around goes around I guess.

Exactly. I’m not sure why some of the tards in this thread think they are mutually exclusive. I think Saban is the greatest college football coach—maybe greatest college coach in any sport—of all time. AND, I believe he is an obsessive, immature, petty, Napoleonic-complex-having, insufferable a-hole. I am quite capable of having both of these opinions simultaneously.

And I’m quite sure there is a pretty clear correlation between the 2 as well. Saban wouldn’t be Saban without all those character “flaws.” He has to act like that to achieve that level of success. I live in NLA now and am exposed to Skip Holtz on the radio pretty regularly. He appears to have the right philosophy as well and seems like one helluva guy. But there’s a reason why he’s coaching at Louisiana Tech despite his last name and Saban is at Alabama.

However, if I’m giving the benefit of the doubt to someone who is justified in not liking the other, I will give that benefit to Joe Addai over Nick Saban all day, every day.

He came in and redshirted. His freshman year he got stats against teams like ULL. He was gonna be the guy in 2003 but got injured and sat backseat to Vincent after that. He had a decent year as a junior but a solid year as a senior. Never had 1000 yards rushing. Only got close once and look at the talent he got to play with.

It’s not that he’s that great of a coach. He’s more of a politician. He figures out the best way to cheat and not get caught or gain enough leverage that nobody dares to challenge him.

I guess you aren’t aware of the cheating he was involved with while at LSU?
