It's not a huge deal, but do NOT be surprised if...

...very shortly after he takes the job Woody goes out and buys Kim Mulkey as the women's hoops coach.
You can't get a better time to do it given that she just won the national championship, and there were stupid articles about her coaching the LSU men's team. We went through four years of the Kramer Robertson business not long ago, and the only real obstacle to it was the $2 million she makes. Well, we now have a guy who laughs at those kinds of obstacles - he just signed Buzz Williams to a contract that starts at $3.8 million a year and escalates to $4.4 million in its 6th year. $2 million is nothing.
Nothing would mark Woody's arrival as the new sheriff in town better than running Fargas and bringing Mulkey in. It's an obvious move. And the reason you hire a Scott Woodward is to make the obvious moves happen.
I wouldn't bet against it happening. Not even by the end of the month.

I think that would be a pretty big deal...and would welcome that change!

As much as I want Fargas gone, and she should be
I seriously doubt he gets rid of her within the first few months on campus but who knows. I'm all for making a run at Mulkey though I don't think she will jump but it can't hurt to entertain it. You never know until you try.
Would be a grand welcoming. Removing her and making a big hire would sit really well with the entire fanbase.

Can someone explain why Joe pushed her extension through? It makes zero sense. She should have been fired.

Because Alleva is a moron who completely gave up on that program. Funny a few years ago he talked about how we need to get the WBB program back to where it once was but it has been the opposite. He was lazy and didn't want to deal with a coaching search.
Her players graduated and aren't in prison, that was a win for him
WBB will never be a money maker no, but it wouldn't be such a money pit if we put a decent product on the floor and competed on a national stage. Pokey days, the PMAC was packed like crazy, there was a lot of merchandise sold, and they Brought a positive buzz to the university nationally. If LSU invests in putting a good product on the floor and commit to being successful, they will show up and invest in it.

WBB doesn’t make a profit on paper, and likely never will at LSU, but one shouldn’t discount the value of 4-6 two-hour commercials for LSU in March.
While those dollars don’t show up on paper, they indeed have a value. And under Fargas, those valuable dollars have been left of the table for our peers to grab.
Anyone that’s ever bought a 30-60 second spot on TV knows the kind of free marketing money I’m talking about here for a two-hour window. And that free marketing benefits more than just the women’s basketball program.
Millions being left on the table in women’s basketball. Many millions. Alleva recognized that in the beginning. Whether he lost sight of that, got distracted, got complacent, or just got lazy, I don’t know. But I expect Woodward will not and that will likely be one of his first big moves outside of expressing clarity on Will Wade’s future at LSU.

I think I’d prefer Kramers mom.

Scott had an open checkbook at his last stop. Not sure he has that here unless our new special assistant to the President for fundraising gets it done.

Remember, this guy was a political consultant before he got into college administration. A political consultant knows the value of a big splash move to capture the public's attention.
And this is a layup. You go steal somebody's coach who just won a national championship and has been associated with your university for four years because her son played shortstop for you? Total no-brainer. The only obstacle is money and this cat gives not one shite about that - not to mention he's in a maximum position of leverage to hit up LSU's major donors to go make Mulkey happen.

I do agree with you though. We will see, I have no doubt he will do a good job here and run things correctly. Bottom line is he will go out and try to get the best people for our program like he has done at his other schools.
But the WBB issue is clearly one of the more significant issues that stand out. I'm sure Scott is wondering how the hell she got an extension in October lol

The only problem is Mulkey makes $2 mil a year and just won the National Championship, meaning she’s getting a raise.
Look, I like Mulkey as well, but there is no way you can justify paying your Women’s Basketball Coach $2.5-&3 mil a year. Hell Will Wade only makes $2.5 a year and the men’s basketball program doesn’t hemorrhage money, it turns a profit.
I’m sorry, but Women’s Basketball will never turn a profit. It just won’t. The same reason WNBA will never make as much money as the NBA. Just from a basic economic standpoint it would not be a smart move. There has to be a solid ROI.
I’d rather LSU hire 20 more analysts for football than throw upwards of $3 mil at a Women’s Basketball Coach.

I agree the $3mil mark won’t happen... here, or at Baylor. In 2019.
I could see LSU paying $1.5-$2mil for Mulkey though with some huge incentives for titles, which would inevitably be the piece that brings the bigger program revenue.

Kramer's fine arse mom coming home!!! If Scott could make that happen even though it's the women that would be a huge get!

If Wade makes the tournament next year he'll make $3 million at LSU, easy. And he'll make the tournament next year. Book that.
Don't forget that LSU has a $1.5 billion capital campaign in the works, $600 million of which is supposed to come from TAF. You go get Kim Mulkey and enlist her in hitting up donors for that money and she will more than pay for herself in dragging that donor cash in here - particularly compared to what you'd get from Nikki Fargas who decamps for Los Angeles as soon as her season is over and can barely be counted on to do so much as recruit.
The Joe Alleva mentality says "No, this isn't worth our effort." Getting Scott Woodward in here means the Joe Alleva mentality is over. If you have somebody who's a Louisiana legend at Freaking Baylor, the Scott Woodward mentality says that you go and get her in here.
She's from Tangipahoa Parish, for Chrissake. Where is the governor, who can't shut up about what a big LSU guy he is, from?

Hire 20 more analysts for football? Nah, I'd rather they hire a great women's basketball coach. We already spend more than enough for football to be successful. If they can't make it on what they're already generating, then 20 more analysts ain't makin' a difference. However, hiring someone like Mulkey (who I insist will NEVER come to LSU), will make a HUGE difference in the women's basketball program in terms of interest, and revenue. Only thing is, as has been stated, she was making around $2 million a year at the end of this past season. Considering she just won the NCAA tournament, you figure she's gonna get a raise to what................? $2.2 to 2.3 million? I'm not sure LSU will be willing to go that high for a coach. We'll see.........................

Because Joe was a below average AD. I would guess FKing was constantly sticking his nose in and directing JA to do certain things and JA was just a yes man to the below average university President.

If we can't get Mulkey, go get Vic Shaefer from Miss St. He's getting paid 1.5 mil and we'll neuter a SEC West competitor in the process.

That’s essentially the equivalent of hiring Saban now as your football coach.
