It would be such a Woodward thing to hire Corbin after all this

I’d laugh my arse off. All the smoke everywhere else, especially with Vitello, just to pull off the holy grail of hires...

It'll be an interesting hire for sure. Seems like everyone has a piece of the pie - a bias interest and/or whispering in ear.

But Corbin is turning 60 in less than a month. LSU would be searching for another coach in 5 years. Wouldn't make any sense for Corbin to coach 20 seasons and build a powerhouse program at Vandy, only to leave and retire at LSU. He isn't leaving Vandy.

Agreed. Corbin isn’t the answer. I’d rather hire his assistant

I don't see Corbin either, for this exact reasoning.

Kim Mulkey is the same age as Corbin.

Corbin is not going anywhere. He has and gets everything he wants and needs.

Question is does Tony V. want a Vandy type job or and LSU type job? He’s already halfway there in Knoxville with a Vandy type of job.

I really don’t want Corbin. I would rather someone younger that will be here for awhile.

I actually wouldn’t mind a badass assistant like Jake Gautreaux over Tony Vitello.

Hiring Corbin would remind me of Texas hiring Garrido. He was late in his career and winning at CSU.Texas came calling and he left. Won two more titles and a runner up at Texas. Cemented his legacy at 2 schools. maybe Corbin wants the same thing. Built Vandy up just like Garrido did at CSU. Then came over to a big name program and brought them back to championships just like Garrido at Texas.

I agree that the pitching Coach for Vandy is one that should be in consideration. He may be a hidden gem.

You want a assistant over a young coach that has already built a cws team at a non traditional power?

Corbin would be an absolute grand slam hire. I don't care if he's only here for 5 years. It would be worth it to have a chance at winning a ship.

LSU needs a "young gun" coach who can stick around for a while.

I can see someone making a case against Corbin based on what you would have to pay him versus his age and whether he could build similar rosters without the scholarship advantages at Vanderbilt. But no logical case can be made in favor of his assistant over him.

Exactly. If he wins us 2 of the next 5 we'll deal with finding another coach in 2026.

You don’t hire baseball coaches with a 5 year window in mind because it will be year 3 or 4 before the team is made up of players he evaluated and signed, and there’s nothing in his past that would lead anyone to think he’s such a great strategist or decision maker that he can take just any team and win big.

If Corbin is the guy you have to feel confident he’s got at least 10 good years left.
