If it was a complete rebuild I'd agree. With the state of our program you could absolutely bring in CTC for a 5 year run.

That’s a bit much hyperbole. A holy grail hire would be someone younger.

FIFY.

Scott's fires are always burning outside the smoke. McDonnell is the most obvious choice that hasn't been mentioned. At all.

Would you have hired Saban 10 years ago??? And paid him the most in the country?

What if Corbin says no and Vitello stays in Tn. What is your next move?

But Corbin is turning 60 in less than a month. LSU would be searching for another coach in 5 years. Wouldn't make any sense for Corbin to coach 20 seasons and build a powerhouse program at Vandy, only to leave and retire at LSU. He isn't leaving Vandy.

And this is why it could work. My thoughts:

- It's much easier to recruit ball players to LSU, versus Vanderbilt. His hassle factor is severely reduced in his later days of coaching.

- Artificial turf is really hot, versus grass. Old guys hate heat.

- He's 60. He can go to 70. It's baseball.

- Higher income produces bigger savings for retirement, and he just might qualify for that state pension that is not available at the private school.

If LSU hired Tim Corbin away from Vanderbilt, it would be national news and on ESPN SportsCenter.

On the other hand, if LSU hires Vitello, the national media that cover college baseball will wonder, "Why didn't they just hire Jim Schlossnagle, who was his boss at TCU and has already been to Omaha five times?" #truth

This is my only gripe with hiring corbin, i do not want to be in this same situation in the next few years. Lets back up the brinks truck and grab a young hire who can keep this program going for many years
