It is a shame Kevin Faulk was never in the Heisman conversation

Was watching a replay of Kevin Faulk on a post someone made and it is a shame he was never in the Heisman conversation. I understand his total numbers were way off from Ricky Williams but the had about the same YPC avg( 5.6 to 5.9) and almost the same TD/Carry avg (1TD/13 CA to 1TD/19 CA) but Williams had 132 more carries that year. And so many big time QB's that year. Only one other WR and DB got votes but I think he was more deserving than Champ Bailey. Don't remember if there was another RB in the country that could make an impact running or catching the ball as well as return punts. Truly one of a kind.

Going 4-7 will take you out of most Heisman convos.

Imagine LSU going into that ND game with only one loss. It would have been his signature Heisman game.

If Faneca had come back for his senior season, Faulk would have had a legit shot.

100%. Team is a lot better too. The defense sucked but the offense wasn’t as good either and Faneca would have absolutely made a difference. We lost multiple close games that year there would have been won UGA, UK, ole miss, Bama and ND. Wouldn’t have laid an egg against Arkansas either. And who know how the Florida dame turns out different.

I love me some Faulk, but in 98 Champ was an AA CB/ Nagurski winner and had like 50 catches as essentially WR2 for a pro style offense. He wasn’t some gadget player on offense, he was damn near what Travis Hunter is to his team this year. Still one of the most underrated seasons by a CFB player that I can remember.

When Honey Badger didn’t win (after all he did, especially as a smaller player), it proved that the trophy is a QB/RB (sometimes WR) trophy. Not always the best player of the year

Not too many players will win the Heisman after being suspended for a few games doing the season for failing drug test.

There were three reasons he wasn’t in the Heisman conversation:
1. His team sucked
2. His numbers weren’t Heisman worthy
3. He wasn’t talented enough
I know #3 is going to get downvoted, but it’s true. Kevin Faulk was a great talent, but he wasn’t one of the top five offensive talents in all of college football; he just wasn’t.

I don’t get why anyone cares. He got the “Later Gators” SI cover, and won three super bowls and stuck around the NFL for almost 15 years. I don’t think he’s worried about the way his career went, and we shouldn’t be either.

It was one game, and I still think it was pretty awesome that he was a finalist for the award. He was absolutely electric. Those punt returns in the 2011 SECCG were unbelievable.

Wasn’t talented?!LOL. He could impact a game running, receiving, blocking and returning punts. He was THE most versatile complete running back in the country. Not talented enough? Tom Brady says hold my beer.

Retire his #3 already. They better not skip over him.

97 was a setback with Cecil. Don’t think it’s a shame but damn if he isn’t LSU royalty. Thanks for the reminder if getting old.

Belichick kept Faulk around for 3-4 years because he was a great locker room guy and Brady wanted him at practice.

It’s a shame his number hasn’t been retired in tiger stadium. That’s what’s a shame.
