Travinski and Jobert seem like guys who could do just as well in NIL as their signing bonus and they're only gonna stay in the minors for a couple of years anyway.

You're right, but the kid that can accept that and act accordingly, putting off a lifelong dream, is the exception

Travinski would have the upside of improving defensively, but also the fear of injury

SS in baseball is like QB in football. It doesn’t always make sense, but a lot of times players are drafted on traits alone, and while Thompson has some inconsistencies, he has the traits. A very small percentage of players, even guys playing SS in college have the tools that mlb SS must possess.

And that all starts with having the traits to do it, and Thompson is one of a very small percentile that had those traits.

I appreciate all the great responses to my question.

I think the guy has a ton of potential, I wasn't trying to shite on him. He's made some plays that are certainly major league.

I just didn't know much about his future and going pro, thats why I asked. I certainly think he's worth a pick this year, based on potential alone.

I guess the only reason I even question these things now is because of NIL.

but in retrospect you have to wonder what took so long to get him in the lineup.

He wasn’t hitting like this early in the season when others were hitting better.

Like I said, I remembered his name from last year... I pulled him up online and found this at [link=(lsusports.net)]lsusports.net[/link]
quote:

Played in 33 games (16 starts), batting .242 (15-for-62) with three doubles, six homers, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored … started 15 games at catcher and one at DH … unloaded LSU’s first grand slam of the season on May 17 vs. Northwestern State … homered five times in a seven-game stretch (March 25-April 5) … launched two homers and collected three RBI in April 5 win over Grambling …blasted a two-run homer in LSU’s Game 3 win at Florida (March 27); also launched a dinger in Game 1 against the Gators (March 25).

So the average wasn't there, but the power definitely was. 6 HR and 3 doubles in 62 at bats, 5 HR in 7 games, coming out of nowhere.

As we all remember, catcher was basically a black hole on offense last season and a lot of this. Even with the lower average, that was ahead of Milazzo by a good bit last year, plus he was a threat to go yard. Only answer that makes sense is that his defense was way below the others, otherwise you stick with the guy who gives you offense too.

I think Trav started high school baseball at Loyola in Shreveport which is comical. Loyola baseball is terrible. It's mostly just a bunch of upper middle class white kids that are very average and couldn't hit a homer over a 250 ft fence.

This dude reminds me of a young Mark Mcgwire. If he has a summer of 10,000 breaking balls he will be a monster next year.

I just cannot wrap my mind around that huge kid behind the plate lol

I tend to agree that I think he has outgrown the position and needs to transition to 1B but he and Jay are pretty adamant about him moving to Catcher. Also Pap was a 6'4 monster behind the plate in 2017.
