Is this the end?
From 2000 to today we've witnessed the greatest era of high level college and pro sports in Louisiana and it's not even close. 2 national championships. A Superbowl win. A final four. A baseball cws title. A return of a pro franchise which is quite rare to see a lot of times...especially when it's basketball. Consistent high level success in pretty much all of these sports across all of the programs and franchises. And every one of the highs was a product of total luck or random circumstances. LSU wins the 2003 bcs championship after getting voted in by a computer system and afterwards this springs widespread change in the overall weight system when calculating who was to be in the big game. Eventually being abolished altogether. All started by the split title. Again in 07 after two losses and one in the final week, LSU does the impossible and gets in by default after like what 9 teams lose in the most insane week of college football ever. Again, totally impossible that it happened. And again leaving the program that spent nearly 40 years in the bottom feeder level of major football. After having this sustained success by a barely over .500 coach from okie state that somehow continues the level saban got us to. For a decade I might add...the greatest players in history came in and out each year. Not to be outdone the saints take a QB thought to be totally done who had he passed a physical in Miami would've never gotten here at all...and the best offensive .ide the game has seen team up to win a Superbowl for the freaking saints. Who had only ever been to the playoffs a couple times as it was. And to beat Peyton Manning and the colts with a pick 6 game winner. Set records for offense year after year. Having the greatest run for this franchise ever without question. The men's basketball team takes a group of 3 star guys and big baby and turns into multiple NBA picks and gets to a final four out of no where. Baseball redeems itself in 08 and sets the foundation for it's cws run after toiling under smoke. Has consistently returned to the cws most years and has been as winning a program as could be in an era that is much more competitive and way harder to sustain success within. The newly dubbed hornets in 2002 get Chris Paul a couple years later who leads the franchise to the 2 seed and a run in the playoffs. Lose Paul, go to the west and then land Anthony Davis like they absolutely needed. And this new team name and look has revitalized pro basketball in Louisiana. Truly the greatest era across all the really important and popular sports in LA at the highest levels.

Then.....2017 happened.....

That LSU success starts off great with the cws team getting to the champ series. Only to lose to the biggest rival it has in it's own conference by getting swept and in an embarrassing way I might add.

The saints after three years in the middle of the pack finally get a real injection of talent and youth at keys spots and pull off a season that was so awesome to watch, actually having a real contender for a title here again. Only to lose on an absolute fluke from a missed tackle and horrible luck. Maybe the last year we had the chance...who knows right?

LSU basketball had gone through trying times. But had a new great coach , has big time players on the way. And was hyped up after a few big wins early. Then fell back to earth. Good things may be on the way. But if hey are, how long before Wade moves on to say a Kansas or Duke type program. Not long I'd say if he wins fast and big next season.

Football just got through a year where it lost to Troy and state by ways of total embarrassment. A joke of a season that is a product of poor management and poor hiring. Going cheap with it's biggest money maker like LSU shouldn't be doing at all. All in order to keep a coach who was at least a big time recruiter who would reel in the biggest names and most elite players. Then after the joke season....watches its biggest rival and older brother Bama take it's best blue chip prospect in the last hour right from them after over a year of total devotion to LSU. Then the floodgates open after missing out on anyone to even replace him as well. Leading us all to think more bad times are otw and very fast at that. A possible new coach and rebuild being a very and most likely scenario next year. The age of competing for titles in either conference or overall championships let alone even a division seems like a far off pipe dream from where we sit as a program. Ten wins not even being reachable anymore, let alone having one loss or undefeated years garnering playoff bids.

Then on top of it, the pelicans after going after a superstar to pair with AD and finally looking like a real playoff caliber team that had potential to maybe become a force in the years to come and was at least on its way to a possible top 5 seed has it's entire plan for not just this year but for the future as well detailed by possibly the worst injury an NBA player can have. A torn Achilles. And with cousins heel so went our year. Now not only may that pairing be a thing of the complete past and the franchise back at square one. But now it leads is to think maybe Davis will get sick of being on a losing team and will bolt at the first real chance in a couple years. The once promising rebirth of a franchise that was so full of potential and promise might end up being back where they were before Davis. Without a star player. And going no where fast.

We are in the worst possible declines of every single major program and franchise. College Baseball, football both pro and college, pro bball. All undergoing declines of rapid rates. All looking like total question marks for the immediate and long term futures. The only silver lining being college basketball could get to be a good program as long as the talent influx pans out and will Wade decides to stick around after a couple years. He already has proved to me he should be the next coach at say a UNC or Comparable program. He's worth that level without a doubt.

Get ready to watch the golden era of all sports in this state from LSU and pro levels to experience the absolute downfall that has been on it's way for a while. Paul maneiri will eventually leave and the team keeps failing on the big stage. Orgeron is a lame duck who won't win anything and will ruin the program. Drew Brees will retire soon and god knows if we can find another franchise QB to lead this team that has youth and talent....Who knows what the pelicans end up doing now. But I'd bet that all of these teams are about to be at a level that is no where near what we've seen since the start of it in 2000. Since then for 17 years we got more wins at high levels than ever thought possible. Got championship after championship. Had impossible things happen to help us along the way and make us continue our relevance. And it's only karma that all these bad things all happen in the same year to tear every single one of these teams down. While the one that has had the least success and hardest luck in college basketball have a possible resurgence and look great as of now for the next couple years. While every other program looks headed for a possible downfall of epic proportions. And bring us back to reality. From the 60s to the 90s we watched every possible team but coincidentally LSU bball flail and struggle until bertman and saban came and changed it all. Then Payton and Brees. Then AD came aboard. And it's all at the end of it's run. We're going to be miserable for a while after the next couple years if a serious turn around does not take place in drastic measures across all programs. We are in serious trouble. And it's only rational to think that it's all been leading to this happening.

Lets compare to Wisconsin who signed 20 all 3's and finished 43 in Recruiting. This is normal for them and they love it! Is it the end of Wisconsin???

Got here and stopped. Nearly every championship that has ever been won has been the result of at least a little bit of "luck".

But, to say that the '03 championship was the result of luck is absolute bull shite. That team was the best in the country. The only reason there was a "split" title was because the then darlings of college football pitched a fit, literally created their own trophy/t-shirts/rings, and ESPN swallowed it whole.

Saying USC "split" the title because the AP voted them #1 is like saying Clinton "split" the presidency because she won the popular vote... shite doesn't work that way.

The level of narcissism that assumes that anybody wants to read that giant wall of drivel is off the charts.

No this is all well. Orgeron is a great tactician. We all knew recruiting rankings wouldn't be that good but his coaching acumen more than makes up for that on game days. Right guys? Anyone? South Lafourche where y'all at baby? Cutoff all up in this hoe!!

I read bits and pieces and here’s what I can gather. Louisiana sports have over achieved in the 2000’s and we’ve crashed landed back to earth.

I believe it’s 100% the fault of leadership in our state/large entities. It’s a bunch of rich ppl that care nothing about the greater good and all about profit margins.

Damn! All that typing and you exclude West Monroe winning the composite national championship in high school football in 2000?

You should have used a semi-colon instead of a comma in line 1251
