right now? doubtful. will he make the jump like Burrow and Daniels? undetermined.

he has been erratic. looks great at times and terrible at other times. Saturday he looked good especially after what looked like an injurious sack that was not his fault. but then on his last pass he misses wide open receiver at the goal line. it's the errant passes that are baffling, when he looks so efficient other times. he makes some side-armed casual throws, that look weird. is he being micro-managed by someone who is telling him to change his release? plus the constant back pedaling thing in the pocket is poor technique.

I'm not as high on him as I was on Burrow or Daniels after one year but I know he's capable of elite play because I've seen him play at that level. And at 54 years old I have seen a lot of QBs win NCs who never came close to an elite level.

That's because you're expectations of Burrow and Daniels prior to their first seasons at LSU were assuredly lower than they were of Nussmeier ahead of this season.

In 2018 LSU had been suffering through YEARS of average to below average QB play. So much so that even just slightly above average QB play (which is what Burrow produced in 2018) was viewed as a cause for massive celebration/optimism.

In 2022 LSU was rebuilding the program with a new HC. The QB play in 2020 and 2021 was inconsistent, at best. The expectations for Daniels weren't incredibly high. In fact, there were many on this very board who were adamant either Brennan or Nussmeier should be the starter heading into the season. Many were down on Daniels throughout the season (at least until the Alabama game) because of his hesitancy to throw. Some argued Nussmeier should be the starter in 2023.

Unlike Burrow and (to a lesser extent) Daniels, Nussmeier was following a Heisman Trophy winning QB at a time where the expectation level of LSU QBs has never been higher. He wasn't perfect this season (far from it), but in many aspects his first season as a starter was individually better than those of Burrow and Daniels. At minimum, it was no worse.

If Saturday did not win the naysayers over. I don't know what will.
That kid showed grit and leadership. Also when he was in the tent the players that were looking in to support him shows he is well respected.

I absolutely think he can win a NC. Did he have some bad games sure.

But with some suspect coaching and a lack of a running game to finish 3rd on the list of all time season passing yards and his leadership on Saturday.

I am a big supporter of him and I hope he comes back.

There have been lots of average QBs who won national championships. It’s more about what you put around the QB.
The better question is whether we have a roster that looks like it can be the foundation for a championship if a few of the right pieces are added.

If he has even a decent bowl game he will be a 4,000yd 30 TD QB in his FIRST year as a starter. I've seen some improvement in his decision making the last 2 games and the hit that injured him in the OK game reminded me of the hit burrow took in the bowl game that launched his incredible NC season. Plug some of the Oline issues with transfers and get him to run when the defense gives it to him then yes he can be a NC QB especially with an improved defense . He definitely needs to stop fumbling the ball in the red zone . That has been his biggest enemy and led to a number of losses this year..

If he improves from year 1 to year 2 (as a starter) as Burrow and Daniels did, then, yes.
He doesn’t even need to improve as much as they did. He’s already ahead of both of them in terms of talent and production and did it with a worse supporting cast.

It's amazing to wake up Monday morning and start complaining about a projected NFL draft worthy QB with stats to back it up.

Yes. Just needs to learn how to not fall apart when the offense is faltering and the line can’t hold. Happens to everyone, but to win a title, you have to do your job when everything is going wrong.

Quinn Evers and Carson Beck both did the same thing in loses. When the offense crumbles a QBs head starts spinning and bad decisions are made.

Let's look at some recent playoff quarterbacks.

JJ McCarthy, Jalen Milroe, Quinn Ewers, Michael Penix
Max Duggan, Stetson Bennett, CJ Stroud, JJ McCarthy
Bryce Young, Desmond Ridder, Stetson Bennett, Cade McNamara
Mac Jones, Ian Book, Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence

How do you think he stacks up against these guys?

Honest question. I just don’t see it,

What did you say after Bama shutout LSU/Burrow at home in 2018? I bet you didn't say Burrow was a NC QB at that time either, did you?

Nuss just had the 2nd most completions and 3rd most passing yards in a season in LSU History. If he can get a decent running game to help him and cut those interceptions in half (he had 11), yes he can absolutely be a NC QB.

With good support around him, sure. If he has to throw it 45-50 times a game with little to no running game, then of course not
