No way in hell that happens. If he quits LSU will not have to pay his buyout. I read somewhere a couple of days ago that if they fire MM they will owe him 8.2 million for his buyout. If he quits he will forfeit all that money

Good grief, MM buyout is $8 million if he's fired.

It is reported we are waiting until next week when the buyout drops to 5 million. Both schools are in talks.

That would be incredibly stupid.

McMahon has NO leverage. Even if LSU is blatantly seeking to hire a new coach right in front of his face. He can't get a major conf. job. If he quits, he loses the buyout (and may owe LSU money). Any mid-major job would pay FAR less than his buyout from LSU. His best financial option is to let LSU fire him. Hell, LSU would probably LOVE it if he quit.

Why would it drop then? They would owe whatever future payment is due for the remainder of the contract period,

We wouldn't get anyone good with Kansas and UNC jobs open... so give him lame duck year so we can find someone if we don't get WW

Oh no! I guess LSU would just have to hire one of the hundreds of other coaches who could manage to win 3 conference games and finish dead last.

The LSU Baseball Coach prior to Skip Bertman was a guy named Jack Lamabe.

In 1983, after the season was over, Coach Lamabe went on vacation. He returned only to read in the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate that Skip had been hired to replace him.

Old school thinking. These coaches have guaranteed contracts. Mc will get 3 years of multiple million salary to do nothing.

Would you quit your job before you found another one? They're making sure they can do what they want to do,..before they quit their head coach..

But they're not going to announce a new hire without firing matt first

Good. If he quits, then LSU doesn’t have to pay a buyout.

The wait until next week is because Will Wade’s buyout drops from $5M to $3M on April 1. LSU saves $2M on what they’d have to pay NC State to buyout Wade’s contract.

MM’s buyout is 80% of the remaining value of the contract, no matter when he’s fired. LSU doesn’t save anything by waiting to fire MM. The only reason to delay the MM firing is to make sure nothing derails the Wade to LSU deal before they make it official.

It's not weird, it happens all the time. What is weird is how public this all is. It is very bad form.

I would love the return of Will Wade.

I also feel bad for McMahon. I don't want him to be the LSU coach next season, but he seems like a decent guy, and this can't be easy for him and his family.

This is part of the job. You accept all that comes with that salary. I think he would agree he’s greatly underperforming.

OK, that doesn't make it easy. That is all I am saying.

In life, getting dumped, even if you know it's coming and feel you may deserve what is coming, doesn't make getting strung along any easier.

McMahon is with his agent trying to figure out how to maximize his I’ll leave quietly pay. If they are really pursuing with him on board still, he is sitting pretty. He already knows it’s over. Now it’s about maximizing cash for his future and family.
