Is Leavitt 2026-2027 Burrow 2018-2019 part two?

Hear me out. I'm not saying Sam Leavitt is going to put up Joey B's 60 TDs or replicate the single greatest individual season in CFB history. But look at the circumstantial parallels if he decides to come back for his senior year in 2027 instead of leaving for the draft as a mid-round pick.
Assuming Leavitt manages to settle down, limits the turnovers, and guides us into the College Football Playoff this year, the foundation for a massive senior year jump is entirely there:
1. A Real Offseason / Further Removed from Injury: People forget Leavitt missed a ton of critical spring reps because he was recovering from Lisfranc surgery. He's been learning Lane Kiffin's offense completely on the fly in live SEC action. A full, healthy spring completely changes a quarterback's timing.
2. Year 2 in Kiffin’s System: Look at how Daniels, Burrow or many other modern QBs looked in their first full year starting vs. their second. Giving Kiffin a second consecutive season to tailor the playbook around a veteran Leavitt—without the early-season "Jekyll and Hyde" growing pains—would be lethal.
3. The Physical Elite Baseline: Unlike Burrow in 2018, who people thought had a weak arm, nobody doubts Leavitt's raw physical traits. The arm talent and mobility are already elite. If his draft stock is hovering around the 4th round right now due to the high interception rate, coming back fully healthy with a CFP run under his belt could easily vault him into the top half of the 1st round (which also implies we have an awesome 2027 season).
Am I drinking the purple Kool-Aid after the A&M game, or is the timeline matching up?

Love this comparison. We’ve got the next Joe Burrow on our team along with the next Nick Saban as our coach. Any other comparisons you would like to add?

There is no point in doing this. Leavitt still has the majority of his first season with LSU in front of him. Leavitt's jump from this year to next is still dependent on how he plays over the next 8+ games that we have remaining. Newsflash - he is improving right now. Let's not start thinking about 2027 Leavitt just yet.

I'd like to point out, that Burrow's 2018-2019 season was the first time he started a game since High School... Leavitt came to LSU with 20 college starts and over 600 pass attempts.. so not a great comparison

He has 262 rush yds & 6 rush TDs
He’s closer to 2022 Jayden Daniels which is fitting bc ASU transfer
JD5 in 2022
266/388, 2,913 yds, 17 TDs
885 rush yds, 11 TDs
*technically better stats than 2018 Burrow btw*

People (me) said the same shite about Nuss

Do you see Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson on this roster?

In defense of Nuss he was injured before the season even started and was in a trash offensive operation. Pair healthy Nuss with CLK and he goes off

Any comparisons to Burrow are silly because they all fail to mention the single biggest reason for the massive increase in performance...then change in OC. Brady brought in an entirely new approach. One that Burrow and the other players thrived in. Had Ensminger remained the true OC (as in the one who was exclusively in charge of designing the approach and play calling) Burrow probably would have been better in 2019, but not nearly to the degree he and the team ultimately were.
If anything, Daniels is a more apt comparison. Like Leavitt, Daniels had significant playing experience before coming to LSU. He also struggle in his first season with decision making in the passing game. Both were quick to abandon the pass and take off and run if the first passing option wasn't available. Daniels, in year 2, under the same OC he had in year 1, became more comfortable and confident as a passer. I think you could see that with Leavitt were he to stay at LSU for next season.
As it stands now we may be seeing a bit of that growth Daniels experienced in year 1. Like Leavitt this year vs. Clemson, Daniels ran a ton vs. FSU in 2022. He then really struggled on the road @ Auburn and again vs. Tennessee. However, you saw more growth vs. Florida when he was basically told to "let it go" rather than waiting for a perfect scenario to pass. He then beat two top 10 teams after that. Whether by circumstances (injury) or on purpose, Leavitt looked much more comfortable passing against A&M. That continued this past week (although the level of competition has to be accounted for). I think you are seeing a bit of growth by Leavitt. I think you are also seeing a coaching staff get a better feel for its personnel.

How about no.
I’m not dogging Leavitt but we didn’t suddenly become QBU churning out 3 Heisman tier players in a decade, much less comparing him to leading one of the most skilled offenses in the history of the sport.

We have the next Glenn Dorsey?

100% agree.
As others have said, JD is the much more possibly accurate comparison. No idea why OP went with Burrow lol

I disagree. I think the injury was portrayed to be worse than it was by those looking for an excuse. If he was truly hurt he would not have played vs. Southeastern. Yet, he did. But the bigger thing is that Nuss was making the same bad plays and dumb mistakes in 2025 that he was a true freshman in 2021. Same player...three different OCs. If anything, I think Nuss would have frustrated the hell out of Kiffin simply becaue of his propensity to try to play "hero ball". To a degree, Leavitt does that too. But unlike Nuss, he has the scrambling ability to improvise. Plus, a several of Leavitt's throws (except maybe against La Tech) were just bad passes. The int vs. Clemson was behind the WR. The INT vs. Ole Miss was a deflected pass that he had to throw on 4th down. The INT vs. A&M was good decision. Unfortunately, the ball was deflected as he threw it. The INT vs. McNeese wasn't a good decision. However, I think it was QB simply taking a risk against a team he knew he could take a risk against. It was almost the same route he had just thrown to Watkins that was dropped.
Nuss, on the other had would stare down covered receivers and throw the ball anyway. Then act stunned that he threw the INT. I was a bit believer in Nuss. But after 5 years of seeing the same thing the issues were his...not coaching or an injury.

I don't see the frickin problem with the comparison. It doesn't have to be Burrow or Daniels specific.
Yes, a very talented QB, with a talented staff, will absolutely progress and develop in year two. Time will tell how big of a leap Leavitt will take.(We're seeing development in real time) He has everything in front of him if he wants it.
TD turds will always want Tom Brady out the frickin womb.
Edit to say- Its just as easy to say Leavitt could make a Burrow/Daniels leap, as it is to say he can't. Nobody gave Daniels a shot. It'll be the same people saying Leavitt can't. They're all three superior athletes and competitors.

Burrow and Daniels were probably the only 2 players in NCAA history to make jumps like they did from year 1 to year 2. Not saying people can’t improve but it’s going to be unbearable to hear this every time a year 1 QB is mediocre like the Heisman is just around the corner

I don't know whether the time line matches up - or anything else for that matter. But there's nothing wrong with drinking the Purple Kool-Aid. I've been drinking it every year for more than half a century and I don't plan to cut down on my intake any time soon.

Good add. I’d like to throw in Benefield as the next Honey Badger as well.

If he stays healthy and on the team he very well be in the Heisman running next year. People on here forget how bat Mettenberger, Joe and Jayden were there first hear after transporting.
