A 1-pt victory over Bama, I assure you, will be sufficient. He doesn't have to beat Bama by 100 points.

Besides, why would you pay more money for him doing what we're already paying him to do. We pay him to win, no? So he's winning. What's the problem?

No contract should be amended before an entire season.

If he makes it to the sec title game, I would really consider giving him an extension. If he makes the playoffs, well duh.

At the end of the year yes extend it. Extending his contract by two years doesn’t really mean anything. The big factor would be if the buy out is increased and he gets a substantial raise.

Extending his contract shows support and stability which helps recruiting. The buyout is the biggest issue not the years he gets extended.

A lot of people don't get this. One reason that you can't wait for the last year of his contract. A poster argued me up and down a few days ago that it was of no consequence.

I asked this same question yesterday and got more downvotes than a Bama fan teabagging Mike the Tiger while talking to an Auburn fan smoking a cigar on Tiger Field.

It's his dream job, we can probably charge him to coach.

Hell NO!

Check out Auburn...they beat UGA and bama in November last season and gave Gus a 7-year $49 mil contract with a $32 mil buyout. Yep, that was smart based on wins over the top two teams in the US at that moment.

If we end up 11-2 or better, give all our coaches a fat bonus but no contract extensions.

Nope. He was hired under the assumption that he would return LSU as a yearly contender. To do that you got to be Bama, then prove you can keep the team focused enough to finish. I think most logical people would accept a loss to Bama, but he can’t lose more than 2 this year. He does that and I think he’s earned a small increase. He doesn’t get the big bucks until he gets LSU back to Atlanta though.

I don't think coach's contracts should ever be extended if you are not within the last year or so of contract expiration. Their contracts are heavy with incentive pay, so if they produce on the field, they are handsomely rewarded.

No. He still has 3 more years on his current deal. His first full season was a disappointment. Second season is a pleasant surprise so far. But short of playing for a national championship this year, I think LSU should hold off on any extensions until at least after next season.

I’m not a fan of extending a coach that still has 3 years left. Thats how you end up with a coach thats damn near impossible to fire if results go south because of how many years left and the buyout.
