The shelf life of a RB in the league is usually very short. He knew that may have been his last SB win.

I'm not sure if you vest year 4 or 5, but I think it's 5. SO he has to be on a roster next year to qualify for union retirement money, which is pretty nice nest egg.

It’s 3 full seasons to be fully vested.

“ The NFL pension is a Defined Benefit Plan, meaning the player’s retirement benefit is determined by a formula based on their years of service and their average salary. This formula is the same for all players, regardless of their team or position. The benefit is paid out in the form of a monthly pension, which the player will receive for the rest of their life.”

I have a friend who did 6 years in the NFL (played mostly on special teams, before league minimum was in high 6 figures). He makes more from his pension than he does in his regular job.

He’s also not wearing the custom cleats that guy made him

I don't think you wear those in games b/c of the rules/licensing. JD5 only wore his custom cleats in warmups.

Thats because LSU has a nike contract and they have to wear nikes. NFL players can wear any shoe they want as long as it meets the NFL rules.

Average NFL career is 3.3 years, so he's already ahead of the curve.

3 rings (2 NFL, 1 CFP) is one heck of a career.

shite post.. Why though? At worst, he can be a back up somewhere. What better way could he earn that type of money and not take take a lot of damage

Yea, he's certainly not voluntarily retiring. Below is the the NFL salary scale. He would $1.08 million minimum if he can make a roster.

I would imagine he could get a gig somewhere. He's still young and hasn't had a lot of wear and tear on his body. He's had some injuries early on. Maybe a fresh start somewhere will do him good.

2 Years: $940,000
3 Years: $1.01 million
4-6 Years: $1.08 million
7+ Years: $1.65 million

For the 2024-25 season, the rookie minimum salary will increase to $795,000, while the veteran minimum salary will increase to $915,000.

If not mistaken, Clyde has won a college football championship & now 3 NFL championships. Professionally, what else can he do....yea, earn more money perhaps but then, there would be additional risk of injury. There was an article to the effect he was going to nursing school when his career is over. And he's what, late 20's???

Wtf are you talking about? The guy is 24 years old and doesn't have a lot of carries on his body. He could easily play another 5 years. He can run, catch passes and block.

He’s 24, he’s only been in the league for 4 years. He will get picked up by someone else. Why are yall suggesting a first round pick hang up his cleats like he’s a washed up 35 year old?

But the pension doesn’t start until a player turns 50 I believe.

He's pretty much already exceeded the average NFL lifespan for a RB and will absolutely make a team next year if he wants to keep playing. He's a decent 3rd down back when healthy.

True, he has not been the NFL player we thought he'd be, but no tears for Clyde. When it's all said and done and if nothing else changes, he will retire with 2 Super Bowl rings and a National Championship as the lead RB on arguably the greatest team in history. Not bad for a Baton Rouge kid.
