I mean, it’s not surprising we could put together a roster of people that are 25 years or older from here on the site and we would have no problem beating the LSU football team

It shows too! Let’s go the Cignetti route.

Georgia had two true freshmen in the game on their offensive line at one time. Didn’t you see that? We have a bunch of spastics masquerading as offensivelineman. They have no athletic ability.

NCAA Division I 1 sports will see rosters continue to get older. JUCO and D2 will see talent at their schools they never dreamed of. Kids just trying to get bigger and better to start the transfer process.

It’s clear that 2025 was the worst performing team based on potential and it’s all Louisiana coaches.

Remember when Miles was here, all of the untapped talent that was never developed to its full potential? He also had a lot of Louisiana coaches that historically recruited well in the area. I think the most successful teams are going to have the deepest NIL pockets to get veteran depth or they will have to have the best training staff and position coaches to get the most potential out of the players. College football coaching rosters are going to look a lot like the NFL in the next 5 years.

One thing is certain, the landscape of what it takes to be a winning program is rapidly changing and LSU may get it wrong at least one more time before they get it right. Thats the reality of it all.

We’ve all heard that if you keep LA talent in, you’ll win. In 2023, LSU signed 7 of the top 10, in 2024 it was 9 of the top 10, and last year it was 5 of the top ten. 70% of the top 10 rated high school recruits signed with LSU over the past three years.

Maybe that strategy doesn’t guarantee a top tier SEC team anymore?

Could LSU fans support that strategy of roster management even if it resulted in competing for championships. Many players are grad students - like Burrow was. A team built on lunch pale, gym rat, high IQ players.

Cignetti joined Indiana at the same time that the B1G went to 18 teams, got rid of divisions, and only half of them went bowling.

22 year olds in the SEC means they arent good enough to be in the league. Indiana would be a 4+ loss team in the SEC.

We've seen this time and time again. Most on this board dont truly understand how weak their schedule is. You might as well be talking about Boise State.

It is the old Nebraska mentality.

5th year grown men on the O line.

One player can’t really skew 80+ players, but age at QB has shown to be a difference maker historically. Before the COVID cycle there was Mauck, Weinke, Drew Henson at Michigan, but of course, the exception was Booty. LOL!

This was the BYU "Mormon Mission" template for years.

It isn't just football, all the other D1 sports are doing it too. Actually, soccer was one of the first by getting all the players that played pro abroad for years then go to college at 24 if they don't make the top pro levels in their country.

I think it’s just the residual of COVID redshirts still hanging around. Next year should regress back to the mean

It’s this, and as they wash out, having a starting 22 that’s too old to be in college is going to start to go away, unless and until the NCAA caves completely on eligibility requirements.

If/when that happens, college football is well and truly cooked.

Even as much as it’s talked about, I don’t think we will have a good understanding of how completely anomalous the last few years have been for a while still.

Covid kids, plus Covid nuking HS development/talent identification, plus unlimited transfers, plus early stage pay for play is an unreal amount of change for the sport.

Nothing that’s happened since since about 2022 can be relied upon as a consistent guide for future success, or roster/program building.

it doesn’t. Guys like Pickett and Berry yes. But 4 star OL that are 19, v a 22 year old portal guy? I’ll take the mature developed guy almost without fail. Aside from the elite natl recruits you can’t expect production immediately and no one sticks around

Develop? Those days are long gone it’s why Saban left the game because it’s no longer about developing these kids that come in are getting paid and coming out the portal are suppose to be developed all the coaches have to do is coach and put them in the right position developing players don’t exist anymore the don’t stay long enough to be developed they don’t play so they transfer !

exactly. That is why the only thing that matters in recruiting is getting players that contribute the first year. Period. As soon as they have doubts about playing time they will bolt.

The best is to have a mix of elite 4 and 5 star youngsters playing beside a 23 year old transfer. That way you get the freak talent with the veteran guy to help them along.

Yeah, I read a really interesting and informative article about him on ESPN. He’s not just a CEO. He’s “hands on” in almost every aspect of recruiting and evaluation. He decides who he wants and focuses on them based on not just ability, but also fit, commitment, and character.
Need a younger version of him.

So he has total control of the program?

Saban left the game

The portal and money was going to eat at having the ridiculous stars that sat the bench waiting to play. Saban had as much talent on the bench as other teams had starting. The immediate money changed that.

A player would be dumb to buy in to sitting the bench on a power program if they can get big money somewhere else playing now.
