Yes. They are. An excuse is literally excusing something away because it's out of their control.

An excuse is a reason why something happened that was not expected. Control is not the issue.

He hired him, and he performed as expected in year one. Why would you expect him to be abysmal in year two?

I disagree. Matt House is the reason that team didn't reach their potential.

But Matt House is not an excuse, because he was a deliberate choice.

IIRC, the coaching turnover in that offseason directly pointed at Matt House being a giant cocksucker.

Oh he will come up with more excuses, thats what he does. I've never heard a coach who sounds more like a politician than he does. Wait for our first loss, and count how many times he says the word "process". "We have to go back and look at our process. Its all about the process. Trust the process"

The teams who actually had a chance last year all ran the ball execptionally well and could get after the qb. Kellys run game is abysmal. He had one pass rusher on the DL. Those things have to improve dramatically especially red zone runs.

There will never be a season in any sport for any coach that doesn’t have a ton of excuses. Thats what LSU fandom has become, excuse making. It’s ingrained now.

I like BK, but the above are my biggest criticisms. I dont know if its him or Sloan but LSU has zero interest in running the football. If allowed I truly believe Sloan would throw it every down.

Well he’s told us he’s going to call plays based on numbers in the box so the defense is always going to dictate what we do.

This year is sink or swim time.

I fully expect playoffs and feel good about our chances.

Matt House is an obvious excuse.
Sure it’s his hire, but still a valid excuse.

This year he has the QB, the roster, the staff, everything.

100% agree. You can argue about the blame on Kelly for the House hire all day but year 2 was an absolute disaster solely because of House's inability to field even a half assed defense. This year there is absolutely no reason not to at least make the playoffs.

I mean everybody does it to an extent but there’s exceptions and nuance involved for just about everyone else.

he is fired if we lose to Clemson!

People are downvoting this but it’s probably more correct than not. Sure he won’t be fired immediately but if he drops yet another opener then the hole he’ll have dug could very well lead to him being fired.

His entire career here has been a lack of aggression and everything being too little too late. He can’t start his 4th season here suddenly realizing it’s time to get serious after week 1.

If Kelly does not deliver a playoff birth this year his seat is flat out hot heading into year 5
He will not be the LSU HC in 26 if the Tigers don't make the CFP in 25.

Heading into year 4, however, not only is there not glaring holes but there is a ton of talent and depth at every single position

If he can't make the playoff and make a run this year, it ain't gonna happen. He's not getting any younger.

Conference championship at LSU? Or even competitive in a conference championship?

I hope he gets it done, but if we go 8-4 again there will be sunshine pampers focusing on the narrative that we had to replace 4 NFL draft picks on the OL. Then the next year replacing Nuss will be the go-to excuse.

“And the whole landscape of the football world changed after that.”

The landscape only changed for Kelly?
