It's his third year as head coach of the LSU Tigers. Wouldn't you give any coach 3 years. Why should O not be given the same consideration?

I had us losing to Georgia, Alabama, @Auburn, and one or two of Miami, @A&M, @Florida, and Miss St... so I was hopeful for 8-4 with our schedule tbh.

Well at least you're honest. After the Miami game, which was the first game of the year, it was clear to me this team was pretty good. To say that anyone really believed we were going to win only 7 games after the Miami win has an agenda

Did you feel excuses needed to be made this year? Excuses, apologies, whatever terminology you would like.

New OC
New QB
No experience at RB & WR
Tough schedule
Young team
Exceeded expectations

Those were used as reasons why playoff expectations were unrealistic. They aren't applicable to next season. No excuses. LSU has every reason to be a playoff contender in 2019. As I said in my OP, next year should be Coach O's best shot at the playoff. He'll totally own the successes or failures. Well be 3 years into his tenure...it's his team now. We're going to see how his team's handle expectations with all the variables for success on their side

Has any coach in history been fired after a top 10 finish, without some kind of NCAA or criminal issue.

Closest I could find was Frank Solich at Nebraska. He went 9-3 in 2003 and ranked 19 in the AP poll and was fired.

To be fair everyone thought Miami and Auburn would be good. They were not good at all.

Terry Bowden was fired at Auburn under similar circumstances. I think it was 10 games. I don't really remember the whole story.

Way easier schedule as well.

I don’t know about this. Dropping UGA for Vandy is easier but Texas will be much more dangerous than Miami. Bama is away, not that it matters.

LSU still had among the toughest schedules in the country. I have seen them ranked from No.1 to No. 6 in SOS. So, singling out two schools to make your point is a bit dishonest.

This one has LSU with the toughest schedule

More people thought Miami was bad rather than LSU being good after that game. I think the Auburn game was where we started to get people's attention, Georgia confirmed that we could play with just about anyone (emphasis on "just about"), but then Alabama happened and we've been overrated to the rest of the nation sitting in front of Washington State and WVU since.

Yeah who picked us to only win 6 games? I keep hearing this shite. But the fact is none of you O pumpers said 6 wins. Y'all all expected more and some claiming we had a shot to go undefeated.

Goal posts just keep getting moved. People already counting the bowl game as a win. Ed has yet to get his magical 10th win the dumb fricks keep claiming.

Wouldn't you give any other coach till his third year? Why would O be any different?

Did I say that he should be fired? Have I ever even said once this entire season that he isn't doing a good job?

If the pieces stay at LSU, we should move forward next season.

There would be fewer holes although we will lose a couple of elites on D.

But things aren't static, hopefully any changes will be in our favor.

Many people who do this for a living, and no-one said anything better than 8-4. (fwiw I don't give a damn about what they say, but you asked)

"LSU, which was 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the SEC last year for a third-place finish, has been picked to finish as bad as 6-6 this season and as good as 8-4 in various publications." - Preseason SEC media days report (and that was before we lost Ingram and Chaisson)

Isn't that what was said going into this season since Orgeron had all of the coaches he wanted in place?

Not at all. I know you're not dumb, so I'm curious why you thought this. Only a totall disaster would have put Orgeron in jeopardy.

Again, I didn't say he should be fired. He had everything exactly the way he wanted it this year. Hand picked OC, great WR coach, Aranda extended and his new O-line coach along with a quality QB transfer. So, why is next year going to be different?

Somehow you treat that as a good thing. O had the team performing so badly at times last year- in one of the weakest SEC seasons ever- that he instilled a lack of confidence going into this season. To the tune of possibly 4-6 losses.
So, we don’t lose 4-6. Well we actually could lose 4. But we sit presently at 3. We’ll end up with 3-4 losses. Nothing to write home about. Nothing like what O promises. Nothing that kept the former coach from losing his job.
So, what is said? 3 losses! Hey, it ain’t 5 or 6! Let’s celebrate.

Cause after all...we comin’! We just might not actually ever get there.

And although the season ended in a disappointing loss, they met or exceeded most people's expectations.

Because we'll return a very good QB, nearly our entire offensive line, every WR, and we have 2 stud running backs coming in. On defense, hopefully we only lose Greedy and White, but even if we do lose Feheko or Lawrence too, the defense should still be very good.

Finally, the schedule! All our toughest games are at home except Alabama and Texas. Texas is going to be highly ranked, but IMO we'll be significantly better than them.
