He did it at Arizona too. Why anyone thinks that will suddenly change is beyond me.

Did he? The “defensive” guys didn’t even play average defense in their opportunities either so when combined with being a total liability at the plate there weren’t many real options.

Marginally though.

Like I said, it’s not like we had amazing gloves sitting on the bench. Cranford and Marrifield were our next 2 infield options and both shite the bed whenever they got the chance to show something.

It’s like ok maybe we move from an F to a D on defense. But the bats were talking about were much worse.

I’m not a big “this player on our team sucked” kinda fan. Maybe we should have tried Merrifield at 2nd where he played at LSU-E

- Played at LSU-Eunice from 2019 to 2021
- Helped lead LSU-E to the 2021 NJCAA Division II World Series
- Named 2021 NJCAA National Defensive Player of the Year
- Selected to the 2021 NJCAA Division II Baseball ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team
- Recorded a nearly perfect fielding percentage in 2021 at .987

He never appeared comfortable at 3rd.

Just a thought.

Absolutely 100% no.

It was just 2, Thompson was the 3rd guy.

and he certainly did think he’d get at least 1 judging by his own interviews.

Even just one could have moved Thompson off of short & given you another INF to play with.

Berry played the field like 8x as a freshmen at Arizona

You’re right. He was always going to be the 6th pick…

I wasn’t talking about Berry specifically. I was talking about Jay going with offense over defense at Arizona.

Jacob Berry had been at the top of prospect lists & mock drafts since the time he transferred in. How bored are you right now? You can’t be serious

They threw a ahit ton of money at Young in the end.

It’s a bummer because having 2 infielders who also were a lefty batter and a switch hitter would have been nice.

There was talk of him being the 1st pick coming in.

All he did was show he a below average fielder.

Maybe he’s a 1st basemen at the next level most likely a DH.

There was talk of him being 1st overall because he was the highest ranked college player. He was still the first college player taken. And his fielding didn't move the needle in either direction.

That is something I have said on multiple occasions, so I’m not sure where you think that is a source of disagreement or a lack of understanding on my part.

My comment was not to argue or say anyone didn't understand. I was just stating that I think yall are getting too caught up in the position thing. I agree with some of the points you are bringing up and right now in the process White will get the first crack at 3B.

He went 6th overall so it’s clearly not a huge issue, but I think if he could have shown something more in the field he goes even higher

Which Arizona players are you referring to?

I was referring to the fielding over there. That it obviously wasn’t a priority.

I was well aware Thompson was one of the three and I agree he thought at least one of the transfers would stick. The point is that still would have left him relying on a “DH” (as you put it) or a freshman at either 2B or 3B. If he didn’t put Dugas at 2B last year and move Morgan off 1B, I don’t see much reason to think that would have been his primary plan this year either. I suspect whatever assurances he gave to Berry last year he also gave to White this year.

The difference is that this isn't White's money year. They can try him at 3rd without being married to it this year. Then 1st base is open next year.

I think injuries really sunk the idea of moving either Dugas or Morgan last year. If Morgan doesn't have a knee issue, I think he gets put into the OF more than just the one or two innings we saw last year. And Dugas just wasn't available enough.
