Well this is why there are fall workouts and scrimmages. I’m sure that will clear a lot of this up

However, we cannot reach our ceiling and afford ourselves the luxury of doing that unless we have a SS and 3B that can make accurate throws to 1B all season.

THIS.

Morgan playing 1B or OF has absolutely nothing to do with Morgan.

No one else on our team can save our SS and 3B when they make crappy throws. Only Morgan can. But if our SS and 3B can make clean throws... then we don't need Morgan's insane reach at 1B... and we can move him to the OF and put someone else at 1B.

you dont cut a guy who doesnt take a roster spot who could at worst be situational DH

We're not going to cut him but I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to transfer to somewhere with an easier path to playing time

Neither would I. But he isn't getting cut for sure.

There will be people currently on the roster, who have played meaningful games here that will be cut

This will be an unpopular opinion on here but I think yall give Morgan a lot more credit of "saving runs" than I believe he actually does. Some people here act like Morgan is the only 1B in the history of college to be able to pick a baseball or make a play on bad throws. Is he good, sure. Did he save a few runs, absolutely. Should he stay at 1B solely for that reason if it is better for the team and himself to have him in the OF and someone else at 1B, nah. Tommy White/Skenes/whoever else may play 1B will be able to make a few plays on balls in the dirt and wide throws also.

When he had his surgery I had a talked to him on Twitter and it didn’t sound like he had any interest at all in transferring.

I'm with you on this BayTiger. How many games are won or loss because of the defensive play at 1B? What if White can't handle 3B and you have to move him to 1B or DH? At the same time one of the other guys is killing it, let's say Skenes. Well then you move Morgan to OF in order to play both White and Skenes.

This is probably true as well. Who carries the hot bat? Is Kling a must start? Can white handle 3B?

There are a bunch of different scenarios. If you just play the odds, there are more scenarios with Morgan in the OF.

10 upvotes, more than what I was expecting. lol

I'm a little surprised I wasn't attacked for my pitching prediction. Akenhausen and Moffett having more innings than Noot and Shores. That probably won't happen but it is a thought.

Long time before the season starts. I will be heading to Turkey tomorrow. Mother-in-law is trying to sneak into Russian occupied Ukraine (Lisichansk). I'm going to fly her into Russia from Istanbul and she will drive in from there. I won't be following her, but I am planning a trip to Kiev when fall ball is over. That is a lot later than I was planning but things came up. The good news is I should be here to do some PBP for the fall scrimmages.

I'll be on the lookout for you at the scrimmages. If you spot me, say hello.

Why is everyone so sure that Morgan is a good outfielder?

My opinion - the ceiling of this team requires Morgan in the OF so that we can hide White at 1st and we put better defense at 3rd.

I would have agreed with this, until Chase Young signed. Now the outfield is more crowded than the infield, and to reach our potential we’ll need to play an “outfielder” in the infield.

So unless Gavin Guidry is a freshman stud (I’m hoping), our best lineup would be an infield of Morgan, White, Dugas and Thompson. And I shudder to think of that infield in action. Right now we have three lines in the water: GG sparkles at SS sending Thompson to DH/the bench; we sign someone else (I don’t know the rules to even know if this is possible); or Thompson turns it around on defense and sheds the yips.

That is a good point. I think the only questionable thing is his arm. Speed and athletic ability isn't an issue. Possibly take him a little while to get used to reads off the bat and routes to take in the OF, but with the type of talent he is I would not expect that to be much of an issue. It will be the arm that may or may not be an issue.

Thompson to DH/the bench

I just can't see a scenario for this team to succeed without Thompson playing and DH will not be what he will be doing.

Yeah we’re already trying to shoehorn too many DH types into the lineup for Thompson to fill that role. If Guidry moves him off SS he’ll play 2B or 3B assuming his bat doesn’t fall completely off the table.

Tre played a good bit of OF in high school. He did all the fancy stuff he does now at 1B but his hand/eye coordination wasn't as good as it is now, so he struggled some just flat out catching the ball. OF suited him well. And, no, that's not a knock on him, just facts.

ETA: He probably would have played more OF here already if not for injuries.
