So I work with a girl whose husband (who also works at my company in a different department) used to be an assistant basketball coach/recruiter at Charleston Southern ~10 years ago. He's over in our building one day and I'm chatting with him and LSU/Will Wade comes up and he tells me how when he was at Charleston Southern, during the offseason their HC asked that they pick a school that they want to go shadow/learn certain aspects of their game. He chose VCU to go learn about Will Wade's offensive scheme. So he reaches out with the assumption that he'll be lucky to get a couple hours of WWs time maybe over lunch. Coach Wade ended up bringing him up there on a multi-day trip, let him stay in his house, and they'd stay up til like 3 or 4 AM talking ball. Said WW was a legitimately good dude and definitely a unique personality in how maniacal he is about the game. Like absolute eats, sleeps, and breathes basketball.

Thought that was a pretty cool story that WW took the time to mentor a young coach like that. Was also funny to hear him basically say WW comes off as kind of a weirdo because of how insane he is about ball.

TL/DNR: CWW is a basketball maniac and the rest of the SEC is fricked

That's something the people that have met him agree on. They all say he's maniacal, as you put it, about the game of basketball.

Seems to be that way with the head coaches for at least the big 3 sports. JJ, Kiffin and Wade all seem to be obsessed with their respective sports. We're lucky to have all 3 as coaches, IMO.

Inviting a stranger over and staying up to 3 or 4 is some Jeffrey Dahmer weird shite.

After games my nephew would get autographs and I’d sit there talking to wade…. First time he asked where we drove from ( the coast) and he’d tell me all the recruits from the area over the years. Next time, we talked about playing on the coast for a game…. He remembered us and picked up on where we left off.

Jay Johnson, Lane Kiffin, and Will are all like that. It's what is required to excel in this new era of college athletics.

We have the strongest combination of coaches in the nation in the major sports. You may find a few better football coaches than Kiffin. You may find even more than a few better basketball coaches than Wade. Personally I don't think there is any better than JJ. But you will NOT find a better combination of all 3. You can throw in WBB and this still holds true, maybe even gets stronger.

I had a friend who worked at LSU in player media relations development who went by his office to see how he was enjoying Louisiana cuisine and culture. He looked at her incredulously and said "I really don't leave the office/gym very much and have most of my food delivered. :)

I assume he was blown away at that time that anyone thought enough o f his “system” to want to learn more. Not surprised of his hospitality offer . Hes a great guy to hang with. That’s why he came back. He’s never hung out w better dudes in his life, than here . I’m happy to be one. True story

This isn't the same. Wade might not have personally known him but you the HC knew Wade. I don't see this as weird at all.
