re: Interesting Insight on LSU O and OC situation on McShay Show

I mean Moore and Thompson were all-conference in their respective conferences before coming to LSU, the LSU mainstays gained experience in 2024 rotating and were highly-regarded recruits and I think Curne and Solomon Thomas are absolute beasts as freshmen. Just my surface level analysis.

Anyone watching knows that its an OC issue. Kiffin just made a division 2 QB look like an SEC starter against a top 20 defense. Our OC made a 5th year senior look like a division 3 starter against an average defense. That's the difference between an elite OC and a subpar one.

Sloan was only here since we had Underwood attached. Once Underwood flipped, he should have been shown the door or at least set back to QB coach only. I think he’s great at that. He’s not a good OC

Kelly has a history of young OC hires.
He usually is involved.
honestly I think Sloan is a bad play caller, but would we be talking about him if Nuss is playing well?
If those deep balls are connecting? If he was hitting our WR in stride and they could catch and run?
Maybe but we’re probably less pissed and probably 5-0
I think we were hoping continuity and getting Underwood was worth keeping him, but i can’t see him sticking around after thisnyear st lest in that roll

There were warning signs last season -- the lack of a running game, inefficient in scoring TDs in the redzone, slow starts, the inexplicable avoidance of the middle of the field in the passing game for long stretches when it was clearly what LSU did best - but there was enough "good" to assume another year on the job and recognition of those weaknesses would be addressed ahead of the next season.
They haven't. The same issues that plagued the offense last year are plaguing them again this year. Only, LSU is not executing the "good" as much as they did last season. Despite numerous offensive linemen and multiple RBs, Sloan's rushing attack has simply been awful. That's not going to change unless the overall approach to how LSU tries to run the ball changes.
The opening "scripted" plays have been worse. Going into the OM game, in the previous 9 SEC games LSU had scored 1 TD and 1 FG on its opening drives. The others were punts (mostly of the 3 & out variety) and a TO on downs where LSU couldn't pick up 2 yards on 2 plays. The OM game just added to that total as, once more, LSU went 3 & out.
In 5 games this year (including vs. Tech and SLU) LSU has gained somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 yards TOTAL on their opening possessions. Nearly 1/2 of that total was the run by Durham to open the Clemson game where he made a great play to break what should have been a TFL. LSU's opening possessions this year: punt, interception, punt, punt, punt.
I'm not going to sit here and pretend I'm advanced enough to know the intricacies of offensive football. But I have watched enough football over my lifetime to know when something IS NOT working...and that is the case now

Paraphrasing but they essentially blame the OC as the main culprit for LSU’s offensive woes.
The interesting comment is when they allude that in coaching circles, a lot of people were surprised there wasn’t a change going into the season.
The Million Dollar Question right there!?!
We know the OC sucks. BK hedged his bets and said 5th year senior Nuss could get him through it. BK, like most media types, thought Nuss would take that next step that happened for Burrow and Daniels. That looks to have backfired, because Joe F'in Burrow couldn't resurrect this offense.

My favorite opening drive was vs Fla
1st & 10 - 6yd rush
2nd & 4 - empty set, incomplete
3rd & 4 - empty set, incomplete
4th punt
Next 2 possessions, 3 & out

Yes, all of this
And if you recall, Nuss went down in the OK game. I was personally not bothered by it, b/c I wanted to see someone more mobile. His replacement, however, showed why Nuss was QB1, in a very limited window obviously.
But then, lo and behold, Nuss comes back out and takes off running down the field on several occasions, the offense opens up, we win, and Kelly beats his chest afterwards
So, we come into this season knowing that, and here we STILL are.

I’m not saying this is untrue but why does this kind if stuff only come out after the fact when it’s a popular topic?

No disagreement here. Nuss should sit.

Sloan wasn't going to fire himself. So someone didn't do their job.

For every negative comment about Joe Sloan, there needs to be an equal amount of reflection and acknowledgement of the pitiful job Brad Davis has done for multiple seasons. It isn't just a Sloan issue although he has to go as well.
Yeah, both have been getting hammered pretty hard along with Nuss and the OL (deservedly so).
Also, I just don't see many great catches or great, powerful runs. Looks like our whole offense needs a toughness check.

Amen to this. I've been saying this since they announced Sloan was "moving up" to be the OC. It's like giving your Ferrari keys to a guy who's only driven a Preus.

Seems like a 10yr old playing madden just calling random plays.
This is what I thought too. Just pulling random plays out of a hat or randomly pointing to one play after another on a play sheet. No rhyme or reason. Nothing setting up something else. Nothing to establish some sort of consistency or identity. Just random.

Perhaps Sloan was the key to getting Baker to leave MO…..? Also, it’s not like LSU didn’t have big offensive numbers last year…experienced talent doesn’t hurt.
There were a lot of issues last year with the offense that good talent covered up. It was very popular after Underwood defected for people to wonder why Sloan was still here. My hope was that Nuss would be good enough to mask Sloans issues. But the offense was not nearly the same under Sloan as Denbrock.

La Tech's Coaching staff made comments. I pointed it out when their defense knew our tendencies and knew they were going to have success against us.
