Jabril Cox ready for South Carolina

quote:

Cox says the staff has simplified things by having a lot of guys staying in one spot regardless of formation, and also “matching numbers.” He gave an example of matching LSU’s best cornerbacks against South Carolina’s No. 13, senior wide receiver Shi Smith. Cox also spoke of simplifying things so as to not have confusion pre-snap and post-snap. He also defended defensive coordinator Bo Pelini and said he believes his scheme is a good one; the players just need to show it.

He said lots of other encouraging things as well...I guess only time will tell!

I won't have or NEED an excuse...I've said repeatedly that CEO made a huge mistake in hiring Pelini! I simply posted an interesting interview with Jabril Cox.

Doesn't sound like a drastic change. They've been doing that while the offensive skill players run by them.

Geez, it’s like we’re going back to a high school defense.

Hopefully they can squeak past SC and begin adding in more complexity for when it’s time to play chess.

Lose to SC and/or give up 600 yds of offense and he should be shown the door.

I think the defense will look a lot better Saturday, but it will be interesting to see if that's an LSU thing or a South Carolina thing. I think USC is actually a great opponent to be coming into Tiger Stadium.

Mine will be that we played 2 freshman QBs.

Oh and the defense sucks.

I honestly think they will too but mostly cuz Bobo is a pro style OC and Pelini was good back when that was the premier type of offense.

Yes.

We have 2 Freshman that will play QB so if we lose 17-13, how do you blame the D?

Scheme and adjustments have been major problems but, the lack of on the field leadership certainly stands out to me pre-snap to be the biggest issue.

They have looked confused with no field general making sure assignments are picked up and necessary checks are made. The ones that we thought would be handling these duties are often the ones that look more lost than the others.

Players taking blame, coaches taking blame - at least everyone is saying the right things. All understand that they need to improve. It's refreshing to have a team that doesn't sit on its hands and continue banging its head into a wall when adjustments need to be made as we did under Miles.

If they can stop or slow down their running back, we can win that game. He's a hoss.

So why is it the when Pelini was here the first time, the scheme was fine and players picked it up no problem.

Now, why are we seeing a problem with the defense and why are kids unable to comprehend what to do?

What’s the difference between the two points?

I’m really happy we have Jabril Cox on this team and I want to believe him. I’m cautiously optimistic and if we see significant improvement down the stretch, ill be pleased with the season.

Simple, go back and compare the offenses when he was here previously to the offenses of today and you will find your answer.
