The idea we could out air raid Leach with this team has to go down as one of the dumbest ideas in history. Sure MB looked scared and not ready to start. I have no idea if he can even be coached up since he's so slow and no awareness. Some of those things can be worked on, but after 4 years, you'd think he would have progressed a little better. MB, Ward, Evans, Rosenthal, & Moore looked lost.

But the coaches have had plenty of time to know what they had and especially had time on the Offensive side of the ball to come up with a decent game plan. Something to ease MB into action, throwing in plenty of play actions and some misdirection running. Instead we came out pretty much air raid with an empty backfield most of the time. This set MB up for disaster right off the bat. The good thing was they did semi correct it in the second half, but still there was zero effort given to run plays. There was no imagination at all.

Defense had a problem with 2 experienced players not making the game at the last minute. It's hard to imagine we are so thin at cornerback and our backups were lost as could be. I feel like we did a fairly decent job on the line and linebacker position most plays with too many missed tackles, but I feel like they are close to being ready. The glaring problem was making zero adjustments which is inexcusable.

The coaches need to realize what level these guys are at and adjust the game plans accordingly to get the most out of them. So as bad as the team played, and as upset I may be at various players, it's the coaches that kept putting them in that situation when they could have given them a better game plan.

**edited to add**
I'm not calling for anyone's head. Just think they need to come to reality regarding the team we have.

I didn’t realize Ms State had all those things and we didn’t. I mean they’ve got a brand new QB and offense too.

and all the cbs were playing out of their expected positions. They had barely 12 hrs to prepare and most of that was sleep time. Then going up against a very experienced, capable qb with an excellent offensive minded coach.

That's basically what I'm saying. I fault the coaches for not having a realistic game plan. As a coach, you have to make adjustments to reality on the fly during the game. Some are great at it, while others are stubborn beyond belief. Our coaches need some work in this department. Last years team isn't here, we need to change the plan.

agreed. all teams looked rusty. It is what it is. I didn't see 1 team Saturday that looked dominate.

LSU got beat plain and simple. Only major coaching decision I question are the lack of adjustments on D.

What did we have 4-5 starters on the field from last year total? Relax.

Oklahoma got beat by Kansas State...

Look, we had 345 yards passing and if you take out Brennan's sacks, we had 117 yards rushing. 27 points on offense and a Pick Six. That should be enough to get the job done.

Brennan looked uncomfortable. Part of that was we had OL issues. Our new receivers looked lost at times. Gilbert had a horrific whiff on a block.

Costello has basically 2.5 years of college game experience.

Most inexperienced players look bad. Practice speed and game speed are not the same. They will improve, probably next week... the most growth is usually between games 1 and 2.

As far as game plan... how do you know the coaches didn't adjust? Players still have to execute.

in reaction to a PFF article about LSU not making defensive adjustments once they saw the air raid offense taking flight

It would be one thing if they had spring ball and normal situation, but they have been practicing like 1 month with a bunch of freshmen. Give me a break, you people are stupid.

Absence of a spring training session is going to hurt teams with young, inexperienced players more than veteran teams, especially when the coordinators are new as well. Now the QB question, I dunno. Seems to me in three years he should have learned more than he has. Perhaps in the grooming of Burrow little attention was paid to Brennan. Still, I think he should have more to show than what he did show.

Running game and ball control have worked best against Miss State in the past given our depleted secondary up against one of the leading passing coaches in the nation. Instead we try to be the same team we were last year when our defense was not up to snuff. Put this on on the coaches.

Miss St had a new head coach, had the same shitty spring camp and summer. They also had a new scheme to learn. LSU had basically the same scheme. It was obvious that the receivers did not catch 10k passes from the Juggs machine this summer. TM dropped several passes that last year he would have caught. OL could not protect MD, and the pass defense was horrible. The CB's did not turn their head with pass coverage. If we win 4 games this year it will be a miracle. Bo is not the defensive guru that you all thought.

Not on defense... you know Bo switched schemes right? Which is where most of our problems were... on defense.

Maybe they didn't catch 10K passes from the Juggs machine because it was always being used by the player who practiced all summer and then opted out?

I'm being a little silly of course but this team is young. They will get better.

They got a new OC and a very experienced QB, but a lot of their players were playing last year.

They installed a completely new offense with a new transfer QB in a vastly shortened offseason.

We're going to have the growing pains. Just have to keep it together and more importantly keep the 21 recruiting class together.

you can't coach experience. remember alabama whining all last year because their defense was playing so many talented but inexperienced players. they had the maturity to know it wasn't the coaches fault. young guys are young guys.

I don't know why so many ranters can't grasp this.
