I think most would agree this is a good starting point.

Well, giving effort and tackling when you’re in position would be a great start

Our safeties are sitting on their heels in almost all running circumstances. They are not reactive and do no play with instincts. Real safeties are filling that hole while traffic exist but our safeties aren't even touching the qbs 10 yards down the field.

Unless we find someone at that position who will quit waiting for the ball to come to them then we will struggle with running qbs until a dawg emerges.

Need to play faster kids. We seem turtle slow when we face a running qb

Simple.....whatever Major Burns did (especially on that one play), do the opposite of that.

Burns hasn't played well. That's a problem.

But even the play he whiffed on was ONE play. What we had vs A&M and Bama was six quarters of misery. With Reed A&M had six possessions (4 TDs, 1 FG, and victory). Bama had 10 possessions (6 TDs, 1 TO on downs, and 2 punts - one after a penalty on a FG attempt, and victory).

To me this isn't just a single player or play.

Not pay a combined 12.5M a year for a fraud coach and DC that seem to be the only idiots in our conference that can’t figure it out.

With the personnel on hand? If it's mostly a matter of not having the players to stop it with orthodox approaches, what can we do creatively?

My 2 cents is that our defense didn't look prepared against a truly one dimensional Alabama. They were obviously not interested in a brief study that would have quickly prepared them for Milroe's limited offensive tendencies. And then during live action they never even tried to adapt. Coaching never seemed to adapt. Everyone plays a role like an NPC and never adapts to what is actually happening.

And, obvious to all, most players either aren't experienced enough, strong enough, fast enough or smart enough to simply put themselves in the right spot to make the play.

Seriously, play gap sound and not overrun the play, is literally the most elemental rule in defending the option.

The safeties must have specific support assignments. Feet moving with backs, tight ends, and slots with eyes on the QB.

More stunts by the defensive ends, with a LB taking the vacated gap.

They are already trying to do this at times. Really strict adherence and no cowboy pursuits.

In my opinion you gotta have gap integrity, win your line battle, allow LBs to be clean

I also think you gotta play zones.

So, basically, all the things that we have proven to not be capable

Bsker is forced into this havoc style D playing predominantly cover 1 to allow the best of our limited personnel

Even if they did contain the QB, LSU still only scored 6 points.

Burns should not play anymore.
If they look at the film of him giving up and still play him then I have to question Kelly's integrity.

Play sound assignment defense.
We are continually out of position and misfitting gaps on run plays. It’s just exacerbated on QB runs because you have an extra blocker and leverage

Some of it was baker calling a bad game.

Some of it is players not staying sound in their gaps.

All it takes is one player on the line to be out of his gap and milroe is off to the races.

Lsu's safeties never make the cleanup tackle.I
