No, but there was no reason to pull the offer completely. None whatsoever.

Tigerdew. Think with your head a minute and not your heart man. I'm no Joe alleva fan but damn you have to like it if he was trying to be a professional businessman right? You don't want a bad business man in there either. Yes, a handshake should be enough to hold a deal-between real men- hell yes

That said, if true, Joe manned up in that sense

So basically he wanted Herman, acted like he was on Shark Tank and now will act like O was his guy all along because he f'd it up.

That's all that was necessary. You choose to ignore the facts to stick to your false narrative.

Good point dizz. I happen to think Joe threw as much money as possible on first offer. Just a hunch. I also will say that wouldn't be good strategy but it just seems like that's what Joe did

Manning up is not the right thing to do. Joe should have said sure listen to them but your out guy. Then move on if Herman chose Texas. Emotions have no place in business decisions

I read it. LSU didn't get Herman because Alleva couldn't wait a couple of hours.

In a perfect Mayberry world this works. You have to read the room and Alleva is terrible at doing that.

Other than the optics of Herman turning down LSU (since when does LSU give a shite about optics) there was ZERO reason to not wait for Herman to talk to Texas.

Python. I'm 50 years old. Phd from lsu. Successful. I do handshake deals all the time. My word is my bond. YOUNG people know very little about handshake deals as I see it. Maybe mr Herman is too young to fully appreciate looking another man in the eye and firmly shaking on a deal

If true (I doubt it is), I see that more as Alleva's letting his pride get in the way of a proper negotiation. Not something admirable.

There was nothing proper about it, if in fact this account is true. He, Herman/agent verbally agreed then came back and said, "well we are just going to go and see what this other guy has to offer." Well frick that. If you can't stick to your guns after an agreement has been made, then that, in my opinion, tells me all I need to about the character of the person(s).

False narrative? Alleva literally got his feelings hurt and is announcing Orgeron less than 24hrs later. No, he's not emotional at all.

No one in a multi million dollar business is going to rely on a handshake million dollar multi year agreement.

Alleva kept it real, played the respect "word should be your bond card" and what happened LSU lost settled for O and Texas got the guy we wanted. Hey great I bet Herman walked away saying same LSU really taught me a less on about respect.

fricking this. Herman/agent have no credible leverage to negotiate. Herman shite the bed against teams he should have beaten, and not just barely lose, but get his doors blown off. If all the Herman lovers can't see the similarity between him and Miles, assuming the Herman humpers were Les haters, then they need to step away from the message board.
