LSU is a sleeping giant waiting for someone like WW to show up.

People say this and I dont understand Why?

And it’s not because I think We can’t be a great basketball school, but it’s clearly not the same situation as football.

Football had an enormous stadium and was widely popular in the state before they were good. Louisiana has a ton of local talent and basically all we needed was for someone to get them to LSU. That’s a sleeping giant.

Upu can’t really say the same about Basketball.

And I only bring this up to point out how good of a job Wade is doing

Cadello that is because they aren’t fans of LSU basketball, they don’t like the attention the program is getting.

Lsu has a nice surrounding recruiting ground, and can pour more money into facilities and a gym/arena. Its easy to see the potential, hell wade said he saw it in his opening press conference

There’s nothing preventing us from having the same success Florida had under Billy Donovan

WW said this when he took the job. He mentioned the talent per Capita Louisiana has in basketball and how for a state it's size it has so much talent in the NBA. He backed it up with numbers Re: relative talent in basketball.

so you want to celebrate finishing tied for 2nd instead of 3rd?
Who cares? If you're not first, you're last. You dont' get a banner for finishing tied for 2nd.
Proud of these tigers as i feel they overachieved, but I play for championships, and i'm sure WW does too. Again, proud of them for finishing where they did, but no one will remember it after next year ever again b/c it wasn't first.

Not how STANDINGS work. STANDINGS don't break ties. Yes, LSU is a 3 seed in the SEC-T but finished TIED for SECOND in the final end of season STANDINGS.

quote:

For instance and explaining/proving what I'm saying about us and Auburn ...in the upcoming sec basketball tournament, Auburn will be the two seed and LSU will be the three seed.

You can't have a tie for a SEED. The tie must be broken using a RULE. This does NOT change the regular season STANDINGS. Standings are earned by conference record. Period. Auburn lost the same number of conference games as LSU. Period.

sure you can come in 2nd or 3rd, or hell even 4th, but who cares? It's like Les Miles saying we came out 2nd in the football game when we lose. If you're not first, you're last, b/c no one cares about all the guys that didn't win.

Comparing football to basketball is not an apples to apples comparison. The comparison Wade made on day 1 of the job was he felt LSU could become what Florida was under Billy Donovan. Remember, Florida had very little basketball tradition (outside of a fluke run to the Final Four in the mid 90's) prior to Donovan. In fact, they had only been to the NCAAT FIVE times in school history prior to Donovan. And Donovan took the job at a time UF's football team was at it's highest point (1996). In his 19 years at UF he went to the NCAAT 14 times; The Final Four 4 times and won two National Championships (played for a 3rd).

That's not to say Wade is Donovan, but LSU has just as much financial resources as UF and a FAR richer basketball history relative to the time when Donovan took over. Also, LA does have its share of basketball talent. Mays (who will be 1st team all SEC) and Smart are from BR. Josh Leblanc was a top 125 player. TWO of Baylor's starting 5 are from Louisiana. LA has two top 140 guys this year.

Basketball recruiting is different in that EVERYONE recruits nationally. No school is heavily reliant on home state guys. If Wade can consistently get the best 1-2 players in LA and then throw in great talent from elsewhere (which is exactly what he is doing), then there is no reason LSU couldn't be a power in the SEC. They were before.

What has killed LSU basketball since Brown left was circumstances and poor hires. Because of the probation LSU couldn't really be all that selective in its first hire after Brown. That brought us John Brady. For his part, Brady wasn't a bad coach. He was just wildly inconsistent. It's hard to generate support when you go from SEC champ to last place in the span of one season. But, just when it looked like his time was "up" he'd have a great season. That made him hard to fire. Trent Johnson looked good on paper, but was just a horrible fit. Jones was just a waste of time. Not that he was awful (he wasn't). Just that he had LSU in a basketball purgatory. The program was never going to be great under Jones.

Wade has the trajectory going up. Frankly, LSU is as close to being a national power as they have been in nearly 30 years. The recruiting is championship level. The offense is championship level. If/when Wade can balance out the offense/defense performance, this team and program is going to consistently be one of the 25 best in America. Hell, they are nearly there now despite virtually ignoring one side of the ball.

While football will always remain king. Their is ZERO reason LSU can't also be a basketball powerhouse.

LSU football was good in the 50s long before Tiger stadium was “giant”. When did you start watching sports 2014? Louisiana is #2 in NBA players per capita behind only Washington D.C., that’s why LSU is a sleeping giant.

Teddypadillac there is so much stupid in your post it is hard to address all of it but I’ll try. Yes I want to celebrate a 2nd place finish in Basketball. I’m not advocating for putting up a banner but it deserved a thread or 2. How miserable do you have to be to have a problem with that little bit of recognition for the program? The “if you’re not first you’re last” thing is the one of dumbest statements ever spoken and was created for a fictional character who was portrayed to be a barely functioning idiot. That’s a weird foundation to build your argument on even if it is tongue-in-cheek. As the other poster already pointed out you don’t play for anything. That was a cringe worthy statement. And I would almost guarantee that Wade would say that a 2nd place finish in conference and trip to the Big dance and possibly further was a good season while there is still room to do better. To you last point recruits and pollsters will remember that we finished near the top of the conference in 2020 for several more years which directly benefits the program. It goes in the record books so it isn’t meaningless at least not to actual supporters of the program.

So only one program per year can be happy. Seems legit

Guess we should take down those Final 4 banners because we didn’t win the natty

The late season dip should have been expected with our already thin lineup losing Manning for most of the SEC season. Looking at our lineup at the beginning of the year, we definitely over achieved going 12 - 6 in the SEC.

Wade being suspended at the end of last year really hurt our recruiting, we certainly could have used a couple of more players especially a big. Thank god we got Whatford, we would have been in big trouble without him. Our lack of depth and size has forced us into to packing it in low on defense leaving us susceptible to teams that can shoot the 3, forcing our defense to spread out exposing our lack of size underneath.
