The players are getting paid to play.

If there is a game that their team is scheduled to play, every single player that accepted a paycheck, should be playing, unless injured. Period.

Most actors of any repute have stunt doubles stand in for them. Why would you think that 'stars' on the gridiron would be any different.

After all, its just entertainment. You don't still believe in Santa Claus or the randomness of the outcomes of games do you...(he obviously never watched the refs in yesterdays game ).

I don’t agree. I hate it as well as OP suggests. It’s a slippery slope. At what point do we see opt outs mid season when playoffs are done? The combine is months away. The fact that this is common place is just another example of how we continue to decline as a society imo. More about me than we no playing for your team no honoring your commitments etc.

You will see that when CFB becomes an actual minor league for the NFL and real contracts are signed.

The bowl “saturation” is ridiculous. That renders most bowl games as meaningless. There are good reasons to opt in/out. Guys looking to make a final statement, uninsured/insured guys not wanting to risk catastrophic injury…
The bulk of the bowl season is irrelevant.
92 teams make it… that dwarfs those who don’t… the current flipped script sucks. If you can fog a mirror you can make a bowl game. So, you’re left with bs hype trying to drive useless sloppy games.
“Major college” football, played poorly, should not be rewarded with a bowl appearance. Everybody gets a trophy and a juicy box “yay”…

1950 9 Bowl games
1960 9
1970 11
1980 15
1990 18
2000 23
2010 34
2020 40
2024 42
2025 46

So you think Mansoor Delane is a pussy? Will Campbell, Emery Jones, and Mason Taylor too?

They have every right to make a business decision. I don't hold it against them in the least. But I have nothing but contempt for the bootlicking pussies who say they were "all about the team" and "bled purple and gold".

I think anyone that opts out should have to pay back a certain amount of NIL money.

Kyle Williams should have to pay back part of his salary then too

We actually already have, Nick Bosa with drew from Ohio State after an injury his Jr year. 2020 was obviously special circumstances but Jamaar Chase and P Sewell sat out the entire year, they top 7 picks and NFL superstars.

No one is opting out because of combine prep. The season ended a month ago, the semester a week or 2 later. So you’re expecting someone who isn’t going to be on the team next year to come back to school, spend Christmas away from his family to play in a meaningless exhibition game that fans be little.

Don’t be so melodramatic

quote:

More about me than we no playing for your team no honoring your commitments

More melodrama, at the end of the day it’s an extra curricular activity. Not playing one last meaningless game is no big deal

If it makes sense for them to opt out of playing then I choose to opt out of watching that garbage

Make NIL money for the regular season only. Then, players get paid for postseason games separately, just like the pros.

For better or worse, things change.

The pageantry we loved “in the old days” is gone. School pride is an element of the past.

Is what it is. Sadly.

My stress level in the Fall is much less however:)
