I just realized this year LSU will probably have a really good team, but not the same insane level of talent as last year. No more guaranteed shutout, 12+ K games from Skenes, at least one guaranteed hit from Crews, or some fantastic play from Morgan. At least we still have one more season of Tommy White and a likely elite pitching staff. It was like watching the 2019 football team but the baseball version.

That Tre Morgan play at home on that bunt against Wake still plays in my head a lot. That's one of those plays I will still vividly remember even when I'm old and dying.

Skenes vs Lowder might legit be my favorite baseball game I've ever watched. One that will go down in Omaha lore for sure.

To be fair, Skenes was a solid pickup in the portal, but nobody thought he would go 1:1. And Holman, Gage Jump, Cam Johnson and Hurd all have that type of talent. And that doesn’t even take into consideration guys that didn’t throw last year like Noot and Shores. We absolutely have shutout and 12+ K arms on this team.

For those of us who really dig into the seasons, we got to watch Crews and Morgan start off as young Freshman with a lot of hype and got to be there with them when they annually lived up to and expanded their ceiling. Crews was Crews, and that’s all that should be said. Morgan was a hometown kid that was highlighted every time a ball got thrown to first and each time looked more magical than the first. My 8 year old loved watching Crews play, but we were total fanboys of Tre Morgan and looked like a gymnast reaching out for poorly thrown ball and getting the out each time regardless. So yea, my son and I are going to miss them the most.

This year we also also got to see a rough around the edges starting pitcher hone in on his skills and become the most elite of them all thanks to the resources we offer. And also got to watch a straight up gun for hire in White choose to come to the team as we showed him a path to win now.

I felt like this team was the perfect mesh between how college is supposed to be played vs how it will be played and managed in the future with NIL etc. And I’ll be forever thankful I got to sit with my son and watch it happen under the lights in Alex Box against our top opponents this yea

Not even close. The 2019 football team had zero opponents take possession in the fourth quarter with a chance to tie or win, except Florida had it with about 13 minutes left down by seven. That’s a horse of a different color.

Yep. The staff will probably be better this year, but we’ll have to get Skenes production from more than one pitcher. Of course, last year’s staff went wild in the playoffs, so that will be hard to match, but that was a lot more than just Skenes.

I see what you’re saying. And as a team, I agree with you, but baseball is a different game than football.

And as far as individual performances, Paul Skenes was absolutely the Joe Burrow of college baseball pitchers. Dude never had an off game. The only reason he was given the loss on 2 occasions was when our bats couldn’t manufacture 2 runs.

I wouldn’t say that at ALL. This team from top to bottom may be more talented than last years. It just won’t have as dominant of a starter as Skenes or as dominant a hitter as Crews. But this lineup is going to be scary good. Last year, there were several guys you could kind of work around. Particularly Milazzo, Thompson, Pearson, and (at times) Jobert. They all came up in big in certain situations, of course. But on the season, their stats weren’t up there with the rest of the lineup.

This year, you may not have a .400 hitter, but you’ll have 7-8 .300+ hitters. You may not have a single pitcher with a sub 1.50 ERA, but you’ll have 3-5 (if not more) under 2.50.

The 2024 team is different, yes. And you’re going to miss that almost guaranteed win when Skenes was on the mound. But this years team is going to strike fear in opponents and make another legitimate run at Omaha.

I think we all just got really spoiled to how the team performed last year. Especially late in the season all the way through the CWS. It was special, they were hot as hell in those final weeks. They wouldn't be denied.

Spot on. We all want the sport to continually grow, but if football doesn’t get figured out then college baseball can stay where it is.

Build your team through recruiting with a few big time transfers from smaller schools to fill in the gaps. Skenes was great, but Crews and Morgan playing here for 3 years makes the sport so much more meaningful.

I’ll miss them. But that is also the great thing. New guys, new memories, new titles. New dog piles

That was the kicker last season. We never had a true Saturday/Sunday guy to dominate and eat innings. Most of the season was pray Skenes gave you 7-8 and save arms for the next 2 games.

Once the tournament started it was like watching an entirely different pitching staff.
