The problem with the white helmets and the white pants is that the stripes on those don’t match the stripes on the white jerseys. They are using two uniform components that weren’t really designed to go with the other long-standing components: the jerseys.

If LSU swapped shoulder stripes from the single color to where the tv numbers are, it would create a more streamlined look. I just don’t foresee them ever doing it. I know equipment has tried to make it look more cohesive, but no jersey template would work.

When we can’t be differentiated from the likes of East Carolina, Northwestern, or Evansville flip flopping uniforms is a branding mistake.

You mean the schools that don’t have LSU and a tiger on the side of their helmet? If you can’t tell the difference between LSU and and a helmet with a pirate or a big N on it…

That’s jumping the shark, which others like UT and A&M have done. But we have never worn a combo that wasn’t Purple, Gold, or While. I don’t think we ever will.

Feel like that’s something that was really just pushed by Adidas early. Kentucky, Arkansas and Florida are Nike schools that have done an all black look.

Nike has done a good job of working within the colorway of most of the original SEC schools when introducing a new template.

As long as LSU never wears a tiger print like the one time Florida went with gator print.

The problem for many with gold-purple-gold is that it was associated with the period of bad football in the Archer and Hallman regimes.
Yea I’ve heard that and it’s dumb. The teams of that time didn’t suck because of color patterns.

Gold purple gold is as LSU as it gets. It should be featured way more often.

Haven't they worn a helmet with ghost tiger stripes? I believe the helmet was white

Your overall post was good but calling a uniform combo a “kit” really irritated the shite out of me for some reason lol.

That’s because it’s a soccer term. And soccer is queer.

It’s crazy…Alabama and Texas and Georgia and OSU and Clemson and Notre Dame and Michigan and Penn St. and Oklahoma and on and on don’t do this and they don’t seem to have a hard time keeping the 18-35 year olds happy and interesting.

So you’re keeping tabs on what color uniforms they wear for each game? I’m speechless.

I think if you talk to people about it, many will start by saying that, but underlying issue was resentment over the NCAA forcing the purple jerseys at home on us through an arbitrary rule, and not being willing to offer exceptions. And I get that more than “superstition.”

That said, it’s been over 30 since that rule was amended. It’s not a concern anymore.

First of all, of them and everyone else in college football have different home and away jerseys. We are the only school that doesn’t by default.

Second- you’re fricking wrong. Everyone who says this bullshite is wrong. All of the schools that you listed except Bama and Texas has had at least one alternate uniform in the last 4 years. Clemson (ugly arse Purple) and ND (green) have them as regular rotation options. UGA has also done several, including black jerseys. Ohio St does several, both throwbacks and alts, including playoff games. Penn St isn’t known for doing this, but they just did it last year for a playoff game and did it before in 2021. They are right there with Bama being known for plain arse uniforms that never change. Even Bama did it once back in the 2010s (Nike Pro Combat). This argument is bullshite.

Some of you wake up in a new fricking world every day.

The upside of having a few alternates in rotation is increased merchandise sales potential. That may not have meant as before, but with rev share beginning and full employment of players likely coming soon, that is not a trivial thing today. More money is more money. They just need to keep the numbers of times they use them lower, which will actually increase demand. A good example is the gold jersey, which did go on sale last year because its use in a game was planned.

Ok, the point is that they’ve had the same uniform for years and years and years. It’s what makes them instantly recognizable. It’s part of what makes them a brand. We are one of the biggest brands in college sports. Let’s act like it.

Hey dumbass, they don’t wear alternates every other game like we did last season. They may do one or two (at most) alternates a year.

Go be a fricking Oregon fan if you want a new uniform weekly.

I agree with the OP. Wear the traditional uni most of the time. I get that alternates are popular, but it was too much last year.

Personally, I really dislike the all white look. I also hate the Saints’ all white or all black. But that’s my personal taste.

I really like the baseball team’s Sunday uniforms. I’d like the football team to try a purple helmet, gold jersey, white pants look for an alternate uniform.

I am not a fan of these uniform changes.
White jerseys. Purple jerseys. Gold pants. Gold head gear. Great.
A football fan in another city, watching in a restaurant or bar, should be able to look at the TV screen, and know LSU is playing just by a quick glance at the screen. Either LSU has a tradition, or it does not.

I get you aren’t happy having to backtrack because said something that was easily proven wrong. Do some research next time and know what the frick you are talking about.

Every one of those teams wears a different jersey at least 5 or 6 times per season, even if they don’t use alternates. Again, everyone has different home and away uniforms except for LSU. That’s doesn’t confuse anyone.

Many of them (Clemson, OSU, UGA, and ND) do at least one alternate or throwback per season. That gives them 3 jersey combos every year. Yet everyone still knows who they are when they take the field. Your branding argument doesn’t hold water. We do not have to wear Gold-White-Gold 11 fricking games per year for people to know who LSU is. Confusing the branding would be going outside of Gold, Purple, and White, which we have never done, and I would definitely oppose us ever doing that.

You talk about Oregon but LSU isn’t doing anything like that. They have 4 viable alternatives (GPG, WWW, WPW, WGW) that haven’t changed. There aren’t different designs and new elements every season. This is nothing but mixing and matching what we’ve already had outside of the Gold Jersey, which we’ve done multiple times in the past.

As for me- I would prefer to see other jerseys than Gold-White-Gold no more than 4 games per year. Last year was over the top in my opinion. 3 is ok, but we actually NEED some variety in the lineup, even though some of you can’t accept that for some stupid reason. Just because I make fun of you old heads for blowing this shite out of proportion doesn’t mean I have some extreme view on it.

I have my opinion, but I also accept the fact that it, just like yours, doesn’t mean shite. This is a business, and if wearing 3 or 4 different jersey combos per season helps us make money and in recruiting, then it’s stupid to oppose it to cling to the past. So unless you are a big donor cutting a check to offset that potential extra revenue, it doesn’t matter what you think about this. It never will again.

I hate the white helmets personally but I was told to shut up too.

I was watching ESPN and they were talking about Nuss and his highlight reels from last year made it look like he was playing for Oregon or something. I forgot just how many “alternate” combos they hit us with last year and it looked weird the way the network stitched his highlights together.

So I’m on team “branding” moreso than team “I hate white helmets” this year.

Also I’m GenX and grew up with GPG at home and it still looks “normal” to me. I wish they’d wear that combo if they got to have an alt. Wearing an “alt” 6 times isn’t much “alt”. BK might as well just announce white helmets as their main uniform and get it over with.
