If you like to bet, what’s the difference between betting $10 on a game and buying a beer and tipping at a bar while watching the game? It’s really not different at all
i do t give a shite if someone wants to gamble or not, but there is one major difference between placing a bet and buying a beer.
if i buy a beer, i get my beer. right now. no matter what.
i do t have to wait three+ hours to maybe get my beer.

Because the smart bet is take the points. LSU until different is not a good road team. Playing at AUB is always a head banger. Take the 8.5 is the logical bet.
LSU 34
AUB 30
LSU 34
AUB 30

I got a bonus token and used it to put ole miss over +200. Auburn is over +200. I win money or I win at life.

Are you talking about taking Auburn to cover the spread?
Yes, "taking the 8.5" would mean betting on Auburn, just as "laying the 8.5" would be betting the favorite (LSU) to cover
Im not touching it.. vegas is begging you to take the points. They must be counting on a letdown game, which is understandable.. look at Ole Miss @ Florida, Florida at Mizzue, etc
Another weird line this week is Tennessee getting point vs the gamecocks. Stinks to high hell

W fing 11am starts in a row. Such BS.

Isn’t Vegas begging the novice better to take lsu? Novice thinking wow, if lsu is that heavily favored they can probably win

I think Joe Q. Public is looking at Auburn just knocked off #1, is coming home, and getting more than a TD

don’t see how anyone who watched CFB this year is comfortable betting in any game. It’s been crazy
That's why it's called gambling. People would never pick stocks based on a feeling but they regularly throw good money away betting on not much more than a guess.
Saban and Corso spent their entire working careers coaching football and they can't consistently predict winners straight up, much less against the spread. But Mike from Addis thinks he has it figured out.

It is a road game with an early start. I see no reason to expect LSU to automatically win.
I actually like the early kickoff on the road. Stadiums are less intimidating in the daylight with a *more* sober crowd and less media attention in general

When a line feels strange (Auburn just won at UGA, LSU can't win on road, 8.5 feels too high, etc.), it's usually the correct play to bet on the counterintuitive side. I'd be on LSU

I'm the opposite lol. I bet $30 on Aiburn to win $105. Worst case I win some money, best case LSU wins and I could care less about losing $30

3.5 hours of entertainment vs. 10 minutes, a bloated gut and 2 trips to the head

This. I don’t even take the under because I don’t want to cheer against a score.

I've learned that any sort of logic, reasoning, injuries, weather conditions, stats, previous history, time of day, etc anything you can think of - has been already baked into the spread. They're literally 10 steps ahead of lone gambler, no matter how well-informed.
Any changes in the line is to shift the public's betting. Right now, at 8.5, they want people to bet on Auburn. Not because they give a shite about LSU, but because they want to even out the pool. During the game, it's all their money, they just want to have to pay our fewer people.
ETA: Literally the only way to beat Vegas is to have inside information.

LSU has a total of 7 wins in Jordan Hare stadium since 1973 by a total if 49 points. LSU was a 7 point favorite there in 2022 with the game essentially coming down to the final seconds.
For context, we’ve played 20 times at Auburn since 1970. Our road record against them during this time is 8-12.
A lot of close games, but not a terrible road record.

even if they were playing 2019 LSU
Auburn had that team beat with seconds left in the game. I believe we made a field goal to win.

i’m watching the game either way, so that 3.5 hours is a push.

one beer gives you a bloated gut and makes you take two trips to the bathroom?
you may have a prostate issue and need to see a doctor.

… he prefaced the post with “if you’re a gambler”. If you aren’t, this thread isn’t for you. If you like to bet, what’s the difference between betting $10 on a game and buying a beer and tipping at a bar while watching the game? It’s really not different at all. It’s money you spend on entertainment that you aren’t getting back.
Well, let's say we have a young family member who likes to gamble on sports and loses money he doesn't really have to lose. When it happens in your family, you develop strong views on the issue of "gambling"
Many young men, college age gamble 10 bucks and then it they continue to do it when they get jobs and marry. and start laying 500 bets..
I know of a few who have lost 3500 in a weekend. When you think about how hard it is for most people to save 3500 after taxes and living expenses, that's extremely costly
It's another growing epidemic in America -gamble on anything at anytime at your finger tips
So- - if you are a gambler, it certainly doesn't make it less risky for your future to get caught up in it.
Phil M and John Daly have lost more than 100 million gambling on sports.
Phil is now in rehab....trying to rebuild his reputation... addictions come in many forms..
Looking for things that move the needle... 10 dollars becomes 100, then it becomes 500
"just digits on my phone"....

My Dad many years ago (1960’s) said never bet on LSU…either for or against.
