No doubt he had Arambide marked down for the spot so he didn't "over recruit" him.
The ideal situation would be Arambide being in the same spot as last year. The backup but still getting work. But that simply wasn't going to be an option.

this is exactly the scenario coaches are dealing with. You don't get recruited to LSU without the staff knowing you can play. The reality is you don't get better at baseball sitting on the bench you have to go somewhere you can play.
CJJ has openly expressed how much he dislikes this portal era but it the nature of the beast. Certainly why CJJ is trying to get the freshman a bit more time this year so they will see his investment in them and not leave. Last year it was much tougher to do.

There's no swinging to make up for defense at catcher. You absolutely can't have a dead glove behind the plate at catcher and LSU is screwed there this year. Better start hitting .400 which he's not going to do.

Those are some unexpected results... if you could put Larson at DH, every player listed besides Ruddell and Paul would be an upgrade compared to what we have now.
At the time they transferred, I would've said Larson. I always thought he had a nice level swing and a good approach.
Right now, you could make a case for a lot of them
I'd probably go with Costello. I think Yorke's been disappointing so far and is way behind Costello despite weak competition so far.
But damn, they're mostly doing really well and way better than I expected.

Ryan was the best hitter in the state and maybe he's your 2nd baseman until Milam moves on
That’s a big one as a guy that could have solidified the middle infield. You also get the natural replacement for Milam

I mean, lsu should have a bunch of guys with padded stats too, and they don’t. Their schedule hasn’t been great.

Costello for me, I’m not sold on Yorke. Him or Ryan.

Larson would not see the field with current LSU OF
I don’t ever remember him even trying to change positions either. Too bad for us

Him and Costello bounced before we even had any portal guys to block them. They had routes to playing time here.
I do think that those guys leaving is why you're seeing the current freshmen get more looks this season. It's an investment in program building (which is way more difficult nowadays).
Kind of hard to imagine both not starting if they were still here

He was injured so much last year that it's hard to know for sure what he could do.
Surely he could've played first. Probably could've been just as good of a catcher as what we have

he played some at 1st base in fall/spring practices. I know he didn't start any actual games there and can't remember whether he was inserted there in the middle of any games, but he definitely did at least get work at first while he was here

He didn't get hurt until the end of his second year here. He'd already been resigned to a pinch hitting role by that point. It was kind of sad. He'd struggled all year, finally had a big hit in a midweek game and pulled his hamstring rounding first base

Honestly, Austin Roelling seems like a pretty complete player. He lacks power, but he can play 3rd and hit for average. Obviously Costello is showing some good power numbers as well

While Costello would be nice, I think Ryan would benefit you more from positions of need. The defense would see an instant boost with him at 3rd or 2nd.
Have you looked into transfer pitchers at all? The hard throwing righty that went to Texas comes to mind, but not any others
Obviously fine with Cam Johnson not being here regardless of how he started the season

Moffett signed a pro contract with the Cubs after the draft last year
The others outside of cam Johnson had not done much
Nic Bronzini Washington
Chandler Dorsey UCF
Dylan Thompson Blinn CC

I still do not get why Ryan or Costello left. Both would likely be starting for us now.
Posted on 3/16/26 at 5:54 pm to Lester Earl
I think Bronzini is at Little Rock this year oddly enough.
