Sadly, Neal is the biggest need for the team currently. I wouldn't want this guy on our roster but this is the biggest whiff Jay did this year. He banked on Bide and he's just a straight up bust at C right now. I almost want them to just bench him and put the freshman in since you already have growing pains with Bide. Same stuff for 2 years. He might not be a C in the future. At least the freshman if he can figure it out has some pretty insane power and should be better defensively behind the plate eventually. Everything Bide does behind the plate looks lazy and fundamentally terrible. The freshman looks bad too but at least he looks like he's trying. I see lots of potential with Serna so I'm willing to let him try. I don't know about Bide, but right now he honestly looks like he needs to change positions and develop somewhere else.
They should've went harder in the portal for a catcher. Big mistake by Jay here.

Hope he doesn’t have a Sam Dutton type performance when he pitches against the Tigers.

Hard to put Neal in this group since he was at Bama already last year and we upgraded bigly there last year with Hernandez. Jay took a gamble on Cade making a big jump. Hasn’t happened yet. But he’s been swinging the bat a bit better lately—he’s gonna have to hit to make up for his defense

Gotta be Brady Neal or Costello, huh?
The only thing I didn't like about Brady Neal transferring was that it didn't happen sooner.

Bingo... I think he could do a better Job than Yorke.

Mikey Ryan or Larson

Not sure what his fielding % is but Mikey Ryan at 2B would be nice right about now

Y’all are focusing on way too much of the negatives with Neal. Think about all of the cool bat flips on pop ups that we are currently missing out on

LSU needs a catcher that can catch a baseball huh
That ain’t Neal

Ashton Larson. Wish he was still here.
I was a big fan of Larson... I wanted him to stay.
With the outfielders we have now, I don't think he would be seeing the field in meaningful action, unless you had him play a different position.
he would have been AMAZING to plug in while Stanny was hurt!

Him and Costello bounced before we even had any portal guys to block them. They had routes to playing time here.
I do think that those guys leaving is why you're seeing the current freshmen get more looks this season. It's an investment in program building (which is way more difficult nowadays).

I think you are right. We aren't thinking about the added value of how he'd act like he got shot by gun every time a pitch actually did hit him. Only to dramatically "tough it out" and jog down to first base after a full minute of agony. He'd then try to stretch/ work out the affected area for the next 3 innings to make sure no one forgot how he took one for the team and how tough he is for not taking an ambulance to the hospital.
Meanwhile guys like Gavin Dugas would eat one in the teeth and spit the ball back to the pitcher.

I mean, lsu should have a bunch of guys with padded stats too, and they don’t. Their schedule hasn’t been great.
You missed the part where I said I would like to have him back, and I said probably. But I would beg to differ, we have played some soft teams that they should do better against, but I think our non con schedule will look a lot tougher by the end of the year. There were some pretty good teams mixed in there.

No, I saw it. Just don’t think the schedule is relevant, unless you are southern Miss.
Lsu is 20 games in the the only pitcher capable of shutting them down pitched on Saturday for Vandy

Why do you want guys who are not very good at baseball?

Kucherak at 3B would be better than Roellig.
Posted on 3/16/26 at 11:35 am to ProjectP2294
Kucherak hasn’t hit well. Was trying to add a DH but no one was worthy

Austen Roellig
Looks like he's played a stronger schedule than LSU. He's batting .393 and playing 3B. I wouldn't mind that in the lineup right now.

I am sure Jay hates it that he has to have a crystal ball every year as opposed to just identifying the talents he likes then ride it out for 3 years with them to see what happens.
Current ways don't really allow that and you could tell it irked him when he referenced how the Jake Brown path should be more of the norm.
The transfer portal decisions come down to this. Do you have a position that you have to have a guy come in and start at. If that answer is yes, you go get the best in the country you can at the position. That will then unfortunately send the younger guys at that position out the door. You may even know that the younger player has great potential (which is why you recruited him) but simply can't wait for 2 years at that position. For catcher this year it was either hope Bide (a player Jay is really high on) had made the jump....or go get another Hernandez which causes Bide to leave.
So were you right in recruiting that player in the first place or were you right in making a move that causes that player to leave? Interesting dilemma that probably drives Jay crazy.

It’s definitely not easy, especially when you play as late into the season as lsu did last year.
All that said I would expect he promised the C spot to Arrambide despite him not being a returning starter. This is just based on the way Jay has spoken about him.
