In a vacuum, Kelly. But if you factor age, I would take Riley.

Riley was literally given a top 5 team. Since then ...

Riley is a very good coach but he didn't build anything and he didn't improve much on what he was given. He became a little more consistent than Stoops was. It isn't like they faced much competition in the big 12 yet he still found a way to lose to iowa state and kansas state a couple of times. I think Riley will do well at USC, but there is no guarantee he'll be winning nattys. He's got to find a way to have a balanced team. In other words, he's going to need a defense that doesn't allow 49 points in the first half of a playoff game.

Both are very good (top 10) head coaches. My fear with Riley was he was a short term guy. Would head to NFL as soon as he could. That’s not a bad thing, just a ting. Kelly’s age may be an issue & make him short term as well. I believe both would/will succeed at LSU.

I do like the perception of maturity that Kelly brings. We need an adult in the head coach’s office. I think Kelly brings that. Kelly has also rebuilt a program. There is something to having done that with where LSU is currently.

I was all in for Riley when it looked like he was the man. Never considered Kelly as an option. When Riley took the SC job, I was concerned. Although, I think we can all agree his handling of the press conference after Bedlam was epic.

I believe Woody did a great job of hiring Kelly. And in his defense, didn’t really overspend (in the current market) like he has done with most of his hires.

Kelly!!!

I watched live what LSU team put on a Riley coached team in the Georgia dome back in 2019.

This year's Oklahoma team barely beat Tulane in the season opener. The last coach I want at LSU is one that struggles against a Tulane team.

Riley would probably recruit better but Kelly is the better coach. I'll take the better coach.

Kelly...his offense is more like Les Miles and I like a team with a good run game vs a passing game.

Call me old school but I ran the veer in high school so I know what its like to run the ball...when they know you are gonna run the ball and you pick up 6 yards.

As a matter of fact...if LSU ran the ball against Auburn we would have won.

Same holds true for the Atlanta Falcons in the Superbowl

From an offensive side, Riley. Kelly is going to hold players accountable again.

I was big Riley.
But I didn’t see Kelly leaving ND.

But Riley has shown fear of the SEC twice now, and Kelly left a great job to embrace the SEC.

I think we should trust their analysis. Riley would fail in SEC; Kelly will succeed.

So by hook or crook, luck, fate, or skill, LSU got the coach it needed, and Riley got the conference he needed.

It’s fine if you want to factor in age, but answer this question: Which one is more likely to see the end of a 10 year contract?

And I don’t mean not get fired. Assuming success, which one is most likely to stick around that long. I don’t think the answer to that is Riley. Which to me makes age a non-factor.

Had you asked me a week ago it’s obviously Riley but now knowing what Riley had up his sleeve, I definitely would not want that. Put it simple. I don’t want LSU’s success to directly be at OU’s expense.

Taking coaches, recruits and current players is low down and dirty. Riley is a scumbag and I will root against him for the rest of his coaching career no matter who he’s playing.

Riley’s brand of football is extremely soft compared to that of Kelly. Notre Dame bullied LSU in two recent bowl games, Clemson and went toe to toe with UGA twice when they had much inferior talent on their roster. OU got bullied by the likes of Kansas, Baylor, Nebraska and Iowa State in recent years.
