1969 Ole Miss game. We would have gone to the Cotton Bowl, beat Texas and claimed an NC. (I was in graduate school at that time.)

I had to go back and look at the scores from 2011. Damn, our offense was way better than I remember. What the hell happened to it in both Bama games? I remember watching them both, but don't remember details. How did Bama shut us down so effectively?

I want to say 2011 but then do we get 2019 if we win that game

2011. Would love to change 79 but overall LSU wouldn't have had a different future

I was at that 1969 Ole Miss game in Jackson. It was my freshman year at LSU. I believe that, had we won that game, we would have won the NC. It is singularly why I despise Archie Manning to this day.

I was at the 1979 USC game but I'd still pick January 2012.

2011. LSU beat up on every single team on the schedule except Alabama and even beat them anyway in Tuscaloosa. Lee was leading the SEC in passing. The defense may have been the best in the nation. Destroyed Georgia in the SEC championship game and spent most of the entire season ranked number 1. Should have been playing Oklahoma State for the national championship instead of getting Alabama (again).

2011. With those wins they beat Bama again they go down as one of the best teams ever. And Bama would only have 1 more natty than LSU since the century turned. No brainer for me

2011 (Jan 2012) is the obvious choice.

But I feel like the 2012 Alabama game is what broke Les Miles, pushed us to second-best program in the SEC (& nation) and cemented Alabama's program as best.

Remember, we had won the NC in 2007, and played for it in 2011. Alabama had won 2009 and 2011.

Les Miles' record against Alabama prior to that game was 5-3.

Win it, and easy to see we win the national championship in 2012 and Les' record vs Alabama goes to 6-3. At worst, we remain on equal footing with Alabama going forward.

Instead, in the timeline we are living, Miles would never beat Alabama again, losing the last 5. He would never finish higher that 12th in the polls thereafter.

NOT TO MENTION, this was the same year in which we blew the Peach Bowl vs. Clemson, essentially ceding our national position to them in the process.

So yeah, even as bad as Jan 2012 was, Nov 2012 was the death of Les Miles' LSU program.

1979 because if we win in 11, we don't get 19 because Mile's would never have been fired.

Of course any of the first three, because those games LSU should have won outright. In the games vs Notre Dame and USC, poor calls by the officials prevented what would likely have been an LSU tie and an LSU victory, respectively.

The 3-pt. loss at Ole Miss in 1969, however, was the most painful of the three. Even a tie in that game would likely have sent LSU to the Cotton Bowl to face #1 and undefeated Texas for the championship. I felt McClendon must not have had confidence in kicker Mark Lumpkin to make what would have been a ~ 40 yd FG.

LSU wins 17-14

They win the natty

That would have made winning the Natty sweeter.

Bama NCG should be most people answer. That was on par to be one of the best seasons of all time
