LSU made the ncaa tournament 6 times in 24 seasons before Will Wade was hired.

LSU made the ncaa tournament 4 years in a row under Will Wade.

And LSU made the tournament 2 times in a 15-year period before and after Brady took them to the tournament 4 times with a Sweet 16 and Final 4 appearance. Wade’s tenure was nothing special in relation to Brady’s and certainly not compared to Dale Brown. Yes, it was a breath of fresh air in the midst of the gloom since the Final 4 in 2006, but the mythos surrounding Wade goes far beyond the actual accomplishments.

Well, let's look at some numbers....

Wade made the tournament in 80% of his seasons and won the league in 20% of his seasons.

Brady made the 36% of his seasons at LSU. He won the league in 11% of his seasons.

Wade's conference record was 55-33 (.625)

Brady's conference record was 74-93 (.443)

Wade's overall record was 105–51 (.673)

Brady's overall record was 192–139 (.580)

I think when you are looking at the longevity of the tenures, Wade's 5 years was better than even Brady's best 5 years.

Nothing against Brady but he lacked consistency. Only one time in 11 years did make consecutive appearances in the Tournament.

Brady only had a winning conference record 3 times in 11 seasons. Wade had a winning conference record 3 times in 5 seasons.

He's a good enough coach to be intriguing but his accomplishments are pretty thin weighed against his baggage. And it's not all ethical baggage. Paying blackmail to former players with personal checks is 100 proof dumbassery. And then he lied about it knowing the proof was out there. Hugh Freeze survived something similar with his cell phone records but I personally wouldn't have let him near a major program.

He's gonna go somewhere in the SEC and then come into our building and beat the unholy living frick out of us.

And I'm gonna bookmark this post just so I can remind you how stupid you are when it happens.

Better schools are about to hire Wade. He did what Matt cannot which is recruit high level talent. Matt is a good coach, but he has low level players. He isn’t a good fit for SEC.

Disagree with this statement. Once the show cause is gone he will be one of the top candidates for just about any job. he has won everywhere he has been and there are plenty of schools who will take a calculated risk with hiring him based on that record. especially when now everyone is paying players. Not saying he is an elite coach yet but he is phenomenal recruiter and that is half the battle these days.

Box was checked “not eligible for rehire” so all this WW return is nonsense.

Were you a fan when Dale was hired?l
I was/am a big Dale Brown fan. He put LSU on the national map in basketball.

However it was obvious that Dale built LSU in the same manner as Wade.

Are you aware of Abernathy and his zillion dollar satchel.

Wooden built UCLA the way.
So did Coach K and D Smnith, OMO.

All the people wanting Wade back isn't getting that. There's no way the guy who fired him will hire him back.

Just because you’re a good coach doesn’t mean you can coach anywhere. Wade fits here. He doesn’t fit everywhere.

I mean he has proven himself at 4 different places now. I'm pretty sure he can get it done anywhere.

That’s definitely not true. Even granting Wade an NCAA tournament appearance the year it was canceled, both had 4 NCAA appearances, but Brady had a Final 4 and a Sweet 16 to Wade only advancing once to the Sweet 16. Brady won 2 conference titles to only 1 for Wade. Brady had 3 seasons at 12-4 or better in conference to only 1 for Wade. Brady had 2 seasons with 25+ wins to 1 for Wade and 3 with 20+ wins and 10 or fewer losses to 2 for Wade.

You are correct that Brady was not consistent outside of the 4-year stretch from 2002/03-2005/06, but Wade was not at LSU long enough to prove he could be consistent for a longer stretch. As the SEC grew stronger his conference record went from 16-2 to 12-6 to 11-6 to 9-9. It’s all conjecture where he might have gone from there, but for 4 years he fell a little short of Brady’s 4 year stretch.

The problem is that Wade didn’t raise LSU to the heights Dale Brown did. It’s possible that given more time he would have gotten there, but that’s all conjecture. Wade fans want to give him credit for things he didn’t actually accomplish.

Show cause ends soon I believe.

I completely disagree with your post but If he’s still at McNeese next year, I’ll come bump and say you were right.

Yep. Even those in McNeese circle said they would be lucky to have him for 2 years. But hey, maybe he stays. He's got a pretty easy path to the tournament every year. Going to a Final 4 w McNeese would be legendary!

It is very weird that on the very board where there is a story talking about LSU football finally stepping up in the NIL game there is a thread of people still banging on WW.

So let me get this straight.
We are all pissed because the football program has only been providing “weak arse” offers in the past. But now we are upping our game. That’s good.

And also. We are still on our high horse and pissed that WW offered a “strong arse” offer to JS. An offer that in todays world would be completely fine. That’s not good.

Holy crap the mental midgets that pull for this school. People thinking WW was the only person paying players here.
