I think the OP was sticking up for the coaching staff if anything. He's saying that we can still make good on the season even if we lose.

Which is true in the simplest sense imaginable. But losing to Texas would clearly put us behind the 8-ball in terms of our playoff hopes. No margin for error from then on.

If this team can’t beat Texas, then it’s safe to say they ain’t beating Bama.

Obviously it isn't completely implausible. But there is a clear effort to keep 2 loss teams out of the playoff. It would take 2007-esque levels of chaos. Bottom line is dropping 1 game basically means we have to be perfect the rest of the way to have a reasonable shot at the playoff

Where's the bet? That it won't get worse than 4, because it seems like you're not confident it'll only be 2. Why not just say 10-2?
I just showed you the bet. Didn't understand it?

Several posters on the first page said that if we lose to Texas, "we will also lose to Bama, UF, A&M." So, 8-4. I'm saying that we'll finish at least 9-3.

And I'm willing to bet Buckeye Jeaux's/Ree's posting ability.

I've been an O-negative guy since 2016, but I do think we can have a loss at Texas and recover. Teams do this every year. Hell, Texas has done it under Herman.

If we lose to a team that is losing 8 starters on D, then we may as well look forward to 8-4.

Nah. It would take chaos on a 2007 level for that to happen. That's at best a longshot.

The loser of this game is done. The odds of making it after this loss is huge. Possible but unlikely.
I never have understood why teams in very competitive conferences do this? The risk doesnt equal the reward almost every time.

If every team did it that would be 1 thing.

For those who remember it:

LSU's GREATEST SEASON - 1961.

Lost game one to Rice, then won ten in a row, sweeping SEC championship and slaughtering Colorado in Orange Bowl. Beat #2 Ole Miss, #3 Georgia Tech (then in SEC), and 7 ranked Colorado in bowl game. Season included touchdown kickoff returns (tech) and about a 60 yard counter play run by Stovall instrumental in beating Ole Miss. Lineup was one of LSU's toughest, Winston and monk Guillot at Guards playing both ways, Amadee and Jimmy Field at QB and linebacker, Dennis Gaubetz, Booth and Estes on the line. Stovall finished runner up for Heisman and should have won it. Finished Fourth after Bowl game.

It was a great season, excitement, bluegrass miracle quality finishes. Without the Rice loss in game one, probably would have won the natty, but it all came to a vote by the pollsters as there was no guarantee that top teams would meet in the bowls.

Playoff system gives some hope if there is an early loss.

You just have to be better than a team for one day. Did UGA look like the same team in Baton Rouge as they did in the SEC championship game?

We lost to a mediocre UF team in 2003 and went on to win the BCS championship

I'll take that bet.14 pts in Austin, $100.00 without any concerns. On paper Lsu should win but Tom Herman is not a sorry coach, see Houston. I would also be happy to lose this bet. Counting down the weeks.

I think the point here in response, is that while the season would still be salvageable, a Texas loss indicates that our team isn't nearly as good as we all hope and think it is right now. THAT is what would be disappointing.

No. Texas is a must win.
Coach O deserves to have his team and coaches play/coach out of their MINDS to beat Texas as badly as possible.
Coach O over Herman!!
