I think we might get in at 11-1 unless Bama blows us out which I don't expect to happen.

Uh Bama.

LSU and Bama would both have 1 SEC loss and Bama would have the H2H tiebreaker.

it depends. Bama is elite, so if we lose a very close game to them and finish 11-1, that's a great season. Disappointing, of course, that we didn't win the SEC because that's our goal, but a great season.

Now, if we get blown out by Bama, that changes my view. A really good year with some strong wins, but still nowhere close to unseating Bama.

It depends.

11-1 and a 4th seed in the playoffs with a rematch against Alabama? Would be LSU's first playoff appearance with a chance to rectify the loss. Would be a successful season.

11-1 with a trip to the Orange Bowl against...Wake Forest? That would be an amazing season ending on a dud.

No. Many here predicted in the preseason that we would go 11-1, so we're right on pace. I said 11-1 or 12-0 depending on the upcoming game.

But I think I get your sentiment... that despite preseason expectations to drop one game, now that we have come this close, dropping that game will feel like a letdown. It might, but only in the short-term.

LSU is going to beat Bama. So keep your negative thinking scenarios to yourself.

No. The goal is to compete for an SEC title and national title. 11-1 is great by any standard.

IF we lose to Alabama with us being #1 and them being #2 and the fact that this will be the 4th top 10 team we have played this year. IF we finish 11-1 and don't make the playoffs it will be a fricking joke!

Let's say we lose, we drop to what? 4 to 6 at the worse? Then we win the rest we would have to move back into the top 4 IMO.

I don't know that the SEASON would be a disappointment, but I sure as hell would be disappointed.

If it even looks like LSU can win against Bama that will be enough for me provided we can hold on to Brady

Those of you saying it wouldn't be dissapointing obviously haven't been living in Alabama since 2011. You can have a great season AND have disappointing moments. I would certainly be disappointed if we lost to Bama. Until we get that monkey off of our back (or Saban dies/retires) we're not going to reach our ultimate goals. Great seasons are nice, but they aren't my ulitimate goal, and I suspect/hope Ed and Co. feel the same way.

That said. Losing to Bama with a path to the playoffs and a rematch/win against Bama would be ultimate Karma and would erase any disappointment of that loss.

No, that's crazy talk.

Maybe but people were ready to fire Les in 2012 after the BCS game against Bama. We beat 7 ranked teams and many of those if not all outside of Bama were blowouts.

Will I be sad that we lost? Yes.

Will I consider the season a failure? That’s ridiculous. Of course not.

I think people are going to be disappointed if this team finishes 11-1 and gets rewarded with having to play Texas or Wake Forest in a bowl game.

No. Because LSU could possibly get another shot at Bama.

It would be disappointing for sure, just because I've convinced myself that this team is championship-caliber. But I don't know how anyone could describe an 11-1 regular season as anything other than a great season. As others have said, it also partially depends on if it's a close loss or a blowout.

Either way, frick em. We're not losing.

11-1 and a refreshing rebirth of LSU's offense and a Heisman candidate at QB wouldn't be a let down.

On the surface, I agree

But this year has a “now or never” feel to it.

Burrow is special, and a huge reason for our success. We don’t know if we will or can get and develop another guy like that. We’ve basically had one or two guys like this in multiple decades.

I don’t know, man. Nobody should ever be sad about an 11-1 season, but losing to Bama would be a serious kick in the nuts.

I feel like we’d drop another one if we came up short against them. Just too deflating.
