Who do you want to be DC?

Would you want Dave Aranda back?

I think he's out after this year

If Coach K wants to make the change, Governor Landry can absolutely move some things around to help with the buyout.

If he stays, it won't be because we were stuck in a contract.

He won’t make it till the end of the year

He’ll be fired after the Bama loss or the Texas loss

Is hiring aranda trying to rekindle something from a previous era that might not even be the best option? (Similar to 2020 Pelini)

I’ve seen Aranda’s name thrown around a lot around here and I get it, and I bet he would do pretty well here again. But why not go get the 2026 version of 2018-2019 Dave Aranda?

I love how LSU fans can't think outside of the box when it comes to coaches. Can we quit recycling the same names? We tried it with Pelini and it was a disaster.

I know this seems like the hot topic Baker is gone end of year, but realize he has a fully guaranteed contract running through December 2028 at $3M/yr.

That's a $6M buyout for a DC on top of going out having to spend a bunch on a new DC

At some point the athletic department is running out of money, so I dont see this happening with the current state of affairs at least. Things would have to go VERY very bad defensively the rest of the way for Baker to be let go. I mean multiple games where we give up like 35+.

Especially in that his unit probably finishes in the top 25, if not better

It's knee jerk reactions, which I understand, but the body of work overall with Baker is still pretty good. We'll see how the rest of the season goes, he has his obvious faults he needs to ultimately figure out if long term he will stay here but in the end I dont think he's close to being fired at the moment with that kind of buyout and how under water the athletic dept is, PE deal or not going through.

We just conitnue to look like the school that will spend their way to national relevance again and it's not working out which is the more frustrating thing. One of the top paid rosters in SEC/CFB, top paid coaching staffs. DC making $3M/yr (which seems insane now)....very frustrating as a fan to watch your fired OC who had one of the worst offenses in LSU history run circles around your $3M DC in the entire 1st half and to end the game to ultimately win with a roster that's probably a shell of what he had here at LSU.

LK won't bring in Aranda.

Why would Aranda be out after this year? Baylor is 4-1 and 2-0 in conference play. The toughest part of their schedule is still to come, but 7-5 or 8-4 look realistic. And it’s Baylor.

The most likely scenario is Baker leaves for a head job. He’s not getting fired. The problem is after this year nobody will pay him the 4 million a year it would take for him to leave LSU. We are stuck with “Coach I-Formation” stack defense for a couple of years at least. I’m confident Lane sees he can’t trust Baker anymore in crunch time. He needs to coach more aggressively on offense.

There are plenty of good DCs out there. Hell hire the LA tech defensive coordinator he’s given us hell the last two years. Defense is mostly about players and toughness anyway.
