Yeah these dudes ain't those dudes.

Last year's portal guys were better in every way. Offensively and defensively.

So many strikeouts swinging at garbage, errors, and walks. This team is just horrible at execution right now. The manager cannot execute in baseball.

I see why posters don't like you. You have the critical thinking ability of a potato.

It’s insane how much legacies changed after being down in the sixth inning while facing elimination in our own regional against Arkansas Little Rock

We don’t comeback there and Jay is looking at being fired right now

That's some curious logic. What he earned is high expectations - on top of what they already were here at LSU for baseball. A few off years can get you fired here. We fired two football coaches who won national titles this century.

FWIW i know for a fact Jay doesn't believe he's earned any "time off" .

Jay has to own responsibility for the quality of play on the field, as the head coach he'd probably agree. No one is saying fire Jay, but he must be accountable for the product produced. This season is most likely a wash, I think Jay will take what is learned and go heavy through the portal to find better pitchers/defense for next season.

No one says he has to go back to back, but what we're seeing is inexcusable. 2024 wasn't this bad.

He didn’t say that Jay deserves a few years off.

He said Jay deserves a few off years.

The former implies that he should get a few years where he doesn’t have to work as hard. If the poster had said this, your response would have been accurate and appropriate. But he didn’t say that…

He said a few off years. That implies that Jay has had enough success here that if every year isn’t a championship team, we shouldn’t be immediately calling for a coaching change. It means that he has demonstrated enough excellence that we trust him to right the ship when we have seasons that don’t live up to the LSU standard.

THAT perspective strikes me as extremely healthy, and something this fan base should remember. You’re correct that we should not accept intentional slacking off. But fortunately, that is not at all a problem right now. Jay is still grinding, and he’ll get us back to the promised land soon enough. It may just not be this year. And that needs to be okay to our impatient fanbase

I didn't say "time off." What I am saying is, given his 2 championships, he should have earned tje goodwill from fans to not cry and bitch about him, especially after half a year of his team underperfoming.

You did say "a few off years" though and I don't think anyone including Jay would agree with that.

This is LSU - he knew what he was getting into. When we lose - people bitch. If that really affected him so much, he'd go back to Arizona where they barely care about baseball.

You're conflating the blame for this 2026 squad and its shortcomings and tying it to the titles that he's won, he deserves grace but isn't blameless for how the team is constructed or performing

Blaming him for 2026 isn't taking away the titles but it does put into focus the pitfalls and evaluations that need to happen in the portal and off-season

He's hit much more than he's missed in it, but even he would tell you that he hasn't coached or managed up to the standard that he's rebuilt at LSU

Yours is a reasoned post. I would not disagree with it. The poster Funnystuff makes my point better than I did a few posts above yours.

I blame JJ for this team. But I am also aware that he’s won 2 CWS championships in 4 years and proven to be one of, if not the best coach in the game.

So, while I blame him for this team, I am not panicking and feel he’s earned the right to have an off year.

Regardless of this season, I don’t think he’s won his last championship at LSU.

Saying he’s earned a few off years in no way equates to he’s taking a year off.
