Always thought he brought a closer mentality to his approach
Yeskie - Yes
Jay - No

The lack of progression with the pitching staff is really concerning.
Having a less talented team will exploit any coach's flaws. #1 will be talent evaluating, he's mentioned a few times he missed this year depending on the portal and wants to shift his focus to recruitment and development. The one thing I hope he takes a long look at is his defensive alignments with the constant shift. Jay shifted right out of a routine GB to 2nd last night before the HR. Seems to miss more than hit with the shift.
I don't see Jay being susceptible to failure of handling success. He seems much more in control of his team and himself. I fully expect to be back in the CWS hunt next season. In Jay we trust
Ben Mcdonald mentioned early in the year that it looked mechanical, front shoulder opening too early, over throwing , etc. If it is a form/technique issue, you have to raise an eyebrow at Yeskie at this point in the season

I would think it’s probably more than just playing bad

I would agree with this, Arrambide would of at least DH some this weekend, or put Serna back on first and DH Yorke. Seems go deeper than just production on the field
A bad defensive team can make the most average look really good on the scoreboard. The few times LSU wasn't walking batters/committing errors in the field, Vandy looked very beatable. Cowan shut them down, and it all revolved around getting ahead in the count. Same when LSU was at the plate, when Vandy couldn't throw a strike, LSU put a lot of runs on the board. It was a weekend of which the team that imploded the worst lost the game
Jay has to own responsibility for the quality of play on the field, as the head coach he'd probably agree. No one is saying fire Jay, but he must be accountable for the product produced. This season is most likely a wash, I think Jay will take what is learned and go heavy through the portal to find better pitchers/defense for next season.
I do agree the college system is really flawed, but most don't cheer for the team because of the player, they cheer for the player because of the team. If LSU were to sign kids only who loved LSU as much as we do, 7-6 would be a good season. Talent wins, and talent will chase money, as they always have. As Coach O said in a recent interview, the only difference now is the guy with the cash walks through the front door, instead of the back.
I feel like politicians get involved in most cases with major university sports decisions like this. But to be as public by going on podcasts like he did was an embarrassment for LSU and the state of Louisiana.

Saints went 7-9 for years straight with Drew Brees, then had that nuclear draft I. 2017

I agree with this. Look at how many top draft picks the Jets, Browns, Raiders had and never amounted to anything. The teams that tank for draft picks, are the same teams tanking year in and year out. Scout well, build an environment of consistency, put the right coaches in the right positions and you will have success. Oh yeah, know the shelf life of an NFL player, stopped signing old dudes to long contracts that will handicap the cap
I'd rather a few wins and momentum going into the off-season than worrying about dropping a couple of picks down. Nice to feel like you're not having to replace the whole team in the off-season, that there are some young guys to build around. Also, is there that big a difference in talent between pick 3 and pick 6?
To become Saban 2.0. You can have a good year at Ole Miss, but impossible to build a dynasty there.
Historically bad with the Saints history is a really low bar to crawl under... I see a 5 win season, they will back into a few wins and play a few teams late in the season vying for better draft stock.
Hate the way he left, but you have to appreciate him bringing a superbowl to NO. Could be another 40 years before seeing another one

Shores was not throwing bad pitches

I agree with that, if anything his pitch selection was too predictable. He went from straight sliders to straight fastball and they timed it up, which was a stark contrast to the way he started with a good mix.
Pretty common for seasoned players to pass on tells, but for a freshman to do it shows a maturity that's impressive

Hitters sit on the change and poke the fastball opposite field. His location has to be perfect

Agree with this, I still think he has good stuff, but there's only so many change ups you can throw in a row and be effective.
Unless you're in the locker room, you don't know what the leadership situation is. Season is long, every team will have its ups and downs.
Makes more sense to just cut him post June 1, hit should only be around 20 mil. Unless you can find something in a trade, but no one is going to take on that ridiculous contract
Really depends on which coach O you get. Before and after 2019 were 2 different coaches. For some, Success can be a drive killer
