I hope you're right. I get we've often been outmanned, but we've looked really unprepared in some big games in the past few years. We should have beaten USC last year in the opener for sure. I want Kelly to succeed. I hope this is the year.

Talent wise the USC game was the one they should have won.Had they not stopped the clock in the red zone late in that game LSU probably win.It takes time to acquire the O and D line talent to compete week in and week out in the SEC.Thats a fact.

meh We have had 4 separate head coaches this millennium and still have won 9 or more games 18/25 seasons Sure seems to be a well oiled machine regardless of operators Maybe it would be more accurate to say “LSU is a machine that runs itself as long as you have someone that doesn’t go full dumbass and forget to plug it in”

The moment O took his hand off the wheel, we went from a record-setting title winner to .500 for two seasons.

When the game passed Miles by and he refused to adjust, we began a steady downhill progression from double digit wins to 8 or 9 with a Bowl and a likely losing season in 2016 if he and Cam hadn’t been canned when they were.

There is no such thing as a program being a perpetually running machine in 2025. With the TV money that is available to SEC and Big 10 programs to pay for staff and the NIL and transfer portal giving players complete flexibility, no program can operate at a high level without strong leadership and alignment across the athletic department. If any team slips a little, there are just too many others with the necessary resources to just coast.

If you make a big mistake with a hire or lose a step, you’re LSU 2020-21 or Auburn for the last 5 years. That’s the reality of P4 college football today.

Cannot begin to spell Special teams.

Are you serious? Ramos has bailed them out for years now when they hit the red zone and can’t score TDs.

There were multiple kickoffs returned for TDs last season alone. You might be only remembering 2022. That was special teams failures after failures.

Have to break the cycle of having to replace someone who didn't work out vs. someone who left for a better job.

The defensive purge was a year and a half ago. Since then, Bo Davis left for an NFL job. Denbrock left for another P4 OC job, but ND is close to home for him and they will let him run his preferred offense. That last bit likely had a lot to do with it based on what you see him running at ND vs here. He was never going to be allowed to run that full system here.

I believe a huge part of the reason Sloan was retained was continuity. Kelly completely purged the defensive side of the ball and rightly so. I can understand why he was hesitant to do the same thing on offense rather than keep some continuity on one side of the ball.

Again, we’ll see how it works this season. If Sloan takes a step forward and Atkins helps the run game (not trivial considering both of our primary offensive coaches are a QB and WR coach and have always been more focused on passing), then this could be a really potent offense.

frick off, shithead Coaches come and go. I hope anyone who coaches our football team has success, but my loyalty is to NO coach, not even Nick fricking Saban. You are a lazy bastard throwing that around with nothing to back it up. You obviously know nothing about this program’s history.

If LSU was such a fricking machine, the 90s wouldn’t have happened. DiNardo wouldn’t have collapsed after seemingly righting the ship.

Or maybe your casual fandom starts with Saban. Even then, Miles wouldn’t have descended into mediocrity just because he got too stubborn to change. If we were such a fricking machine, O ceasing to give a shite wouldn’t have caused 2 .500 seasons and 1/3 of the fricking roster to leave.

fricking casual as hell nonsense. It’s always been nonsense, but it’s even worse today with all of the SEC and Big 10 having the TV money that they do and the top programs in each spending huge sums on NIL. Every mistake is magnified because there are always programs ready and waiting to take your spot.

Remember when Auburn was almost as reliably good as we were and also jumped up for a title win, a title shot, and an undefeated season where they should have gotten a shot? Where are they today? One bad hire (possibly 2) was all that it took. NO program is a machine today. Not even Bama, Texas and OSU.

I can't find where BK ever actually said this
he 10000% said it word for word earlier on in his tenure fwiw. You can find it if you want to do the legwork

He didn’t have the horses like he expected I suppose but he will this season

Doesn't matter. All that crap can fall apart in 6 months. Look at O.

Roster could be decimated. Program can go into a funk like that.

It's kind of a weird irony that the one part of his job he's still yet to prove is the coaching part.

It really all comes down to having the best players on the field at the end of the day.

You can have all the talent but can he instill the winning championships is a prerequisite at LSU mindset in the players.
O didn’t exactly have that instilled by 2019. We just had superior players led by best-in-class coaches. That’s what decides whether LSU wins a title under Kelly, not psychology

Related, I don’t know if it’s ultimately a good thing but the current team’s culture is insanely boring compared to the outright lawlessness of some Miles/O seasons

Then why is Orgeron on 30a shagging plastic gilfs instead of running fall camp?

O was not a better game day coach than Kelly but he was the head coach for the greatest team in NCAA history! He had Aranda, Brady, Ensminger and Burrow. Luck played a huge role in that team coming together. Hopefully Kelly will have the coaching acumen to get the right coaches in place and let them do their job. He's doing a great job so far of putting the pieces together, come on coach, you can do this. Hope springs eternal!
