I was struck by the surprise and pity in Herbstreit’s voice towards the end of the game where he said, in effect, “LSU needs to recruit SEC-caliber players”.

I guess Kirk is not paying attention to the current recruiting class. Why didn't he say that after the LSU/Ole Miss game?

This tells me you haven't watched or attended an LSU game this season.

He got ND further than your current coach has.

There is absolutely nothing about his past performance that justifies that statement. Multiple poor coaching hires and the same old we have to coach better attitude. You've already seen the best he has to offer.

Good. You were, in fact, wrong. As I don’t want to run Kelly out of town. You guaranteed that I would be ready to run Kelly out of town, and I indeed don’t.

Our program is rock solid and about to go on a major run in 2025-2027. Anyone that can’t see that is not very football-savvy. It’s okay though, most people aren’t so you’re not in the minority.

Congrats on being wrong!

You have no way of knowing that. Just as he has no way of knowing what he said.

One is a pessimistic outlook and the other is an optimistic outlook.

(No need to reply with the "realist" take that I am sure you will come back with.)

Because until the are on the field making an impact, it doesn't matter.

LSU's highest rated recruits from the 2023 class, ranked 5th nationally:

1) Zalance Heard - Not on the team.
2) Dashawn Womack - Pass rushing specialist with 1 sack on the year.
3) Javien Toviano - Most notable thing he has done was filming himself having sex without the girl's permission.
4) Jalen Brown - Not on the team.
5) Shelton Sampson - Non factor.
6) Jaxon Howard - Not on the team.
7) DJ Chester - Worst player on the team.
8) Ka'Morreun Pimpton - 3rd string TE.
9) Whit Weeks - Stud.
10) Kylin Jackson - Non factor.
11) Kaleb Jackson - Non factor.

You are right, that's just my opinion based on what I'm seeing. Is that realistic enough?

This is a new take: "Recruiting does not matter."

I have to say, I don't think anyone with a brain buys this argument.

Of course, recruiting matters. Recruits are the lifeblood of any program. You can sky scream all you want about the Xs and the Os, but you'll never win anything without the Jimmys and the Joes.

You want to shite on Kelly, but Kelly recruits well at LSU. So you argue that recruiting does not matter.

bullshite. Recruiting matters, and Kelly is recruiting his arse off at LSU.

Don’t be so dense man. Kirk doesn’t care about recruiting rankings. He is talking about the players on the field. Of course you need to recruit well, but those players also need to be on the field for it to matter. Nobody looks at LSU’s 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes, which were both ranked #4 nationally, and talks about how great those classes were.

I would argue Freeman has been worse than BK, all things considered.

Outside the two horrific losses to Marshall and NIU, Freeman already has more victories in three years over ranked teams - with a better win percentage - than Kelly had in 12 years.

He did this at Notre Dame, too. Drove us all nuts.

Yes, I was indeed wrong. I said "all" when some of you are still holding on to the hope. Just like we did for 12 years.

The ND fans have all dug their heels in that Freeman is a much better coach than BK. There’s no amount of information either way that will change your minds. Y’all are jaded over the way BK left for another program because y’all still believe ND is an elite football school. Here’s the deal though. If you asked all 133 FBS head coaches if they would prefer LSU or ND job, I’d venture to say just about all of them would take LSU. Not to say ND is a bad job, but under the current landscape and with their academic restrictions, they will never win a national title. Do you think Les Miles or Ed Orgeron would win a title at Notre Dame?

BK will win a natty in 26 or 27, unfortunate for you

He's got 21 years as a D1 head coach that says he won't!

In the last 40 years (1984-2023), only 7 D1 national championship coaches had over 14 years as a D1 HC under their belt before winning their 1st title!

Of those 7, only 3 finally won a title after 21 years as a D1 HC!

Hell, only 14 coaches in the last 40 years have taken over 10 years as a D1 HC to win their 1st!

The numbers don't lie, if you haven't won a title after 21 years as a D1 HC it probably ain't happening for you!

Anyone care to guess how many years of D1 HC experience BK has???

21!!!!!!

Mack Brown is the only coach to finally win a D1 championship after being a D1 HC for over 21 years (2005 was his 22nd year as a D1 HC)

It is easy to do when you don't have to rebuild the program like Kelly did at ND and LSU.

Freeman taking over ND is like Miles, Ed O, and Kalen Deboer taking over a program.

That whole diatribe is contradictory throughout. You said he won’t win one because he hasn’t won yet, but then describe several who have won later in their careers. A lot of winning a title is being in the right place at the right time. Cincinnati and Notre Dame aren’t winning titles no matter who is coaching them. This is the first place he’s coached where he can acquire equal talent to compete with the big dogs.
