I think the "guaranteed" 3s made O coach way too conservative inside the 30...

There was a clear lack of imagination once close and ran out of too many bunched formations ..all year long.

About my only complaint (outside the shutout)

I was wondering if they were actually trying to get Cole the record...but Justin dropped the TD pass so the answer is no...

That and we have been terrified to throw a pass in crucial situations.

We need to try some pick plays out of that bunch formation. Something different. Even if we got penalized at least we would have tried.

You may be right...if you are, that's retarded.

I wish we’d be more balanced in the red zone. A little more passing and stop playing so scared to turn the ball over. Yeah, we threw a pick six, but we also still threw for like 4 TDs. I’ll take 2 ints if it means 6 TDs lol

I don’t care about total yards. I just care about TDs.. I really hope we can improve on the red zone scoring.

Not having a consistent run game hurt LSU in the red zone. You have to be able to run the ball to be successful down there.

I agree. Look at the A&M game. 5 TD’s in 7 OT’s basically starting in the red zone. They were much more creative in those possessions than we’ve seen all season. Don’t remember any of them being on 4th down either when we had to have a TD to continue. They knew FG’s wouldn’t cut it.

you have a good point that probably has merit. my thought is that Joe threw some key interceptions in the end zone this year; not necessarily his fault as he had to pass before the receiver made his cut.

for the life of me I can't understand how we can't take advantage of our tall receivers with the fade more often. maybe that's a pass Joe doesn't excel at. who knows?

Did you catch E's comments at the Bowl game re red zone offense. The lack of TE's limited a power run game in the red zone. I think he has a point.

That is a common “problem” anytime a team has a great kicker. Vice versa, when the kicker sucks you see ballsy or crazy “mad hatter” kind of risks taken.

I think that is a terrible excuse for shitty play calling in the red zone.

I mean we scored on Burrows keeper on the 1st possession. It’s also been our MO to go quick and the reason we’ve converted many 3rd and 4th and shorts so I don’t blame him for not challenging it. Just an unfortunate false start fricked it up. Not to mention Jefferson missing a perfect ball in the endzone. That’s 8 points and 2 less FGs right there strictly due to execution and not coaching.

Let's look at the 4 redzones that resulted in FGs...

1. Burrow looked like he scored but not reviewed. Inside the 1 and a false start by Charles.

2. Illegal formation at the 14 then Lewis jumps on 4th and 1 at the 5. Don't know if they were going to snap it but we'll never know now.

3. Jefferson drops a TD.

4. Played for FG with 3 runs. Horrible.

TDs in the redzone has to get fixed. It's horrible but execution was just as bad and took at least 2 TDs off the board.

It's one thing to be conservative but it's another thing to be predictable. 9 times out of 10 if LSU lined up in the shotgun with 3 wide, they ran a zone read with the rb getting the ball all the time. If they lined up single back with Joe under center with Carter and Moreau at Te, they almost always ran the ball. So you only run the ball out of those formations on first and second down then on 3rd down you decide to throw, that offense is too easy to defend. LSU should've won that game by 20+ points.

Thanks for the breakdown.

While I am appreciative of Brosette & his loyalty, he is not a Fournette or Guice. Should be a different story next year with the incoming class. The D has to respect the run game in the red zone to open the pass on a short field.

Running plays can be predicted by our formation.
