LSU needs great hotels and restaurants within walking distance to Tiger Stadium
And How do these hotels survive outside of football season?

The idea of parking a couple of miles from Tiger Stadium and bringing bicycles on campus is vastly underrated. Bring a backpack cooler to enjoy the day. You can hit multiple tailgates all over campus and not feel completely worn out from walking by the time that you get into your seat at the game. And traffic, well you bypass it by parking off-campus.

You had no choice in the matter, but here’s your trophy you’re looking for.

You didn’t always have 102K seats, more game day staff to handle more attendees, etc

Everyone here acts like traffic is only a problem at LSU. Many other schools are in small college towns with 1 or 2 highways in and out and not enough hotel occupancy to have everyone stay the night.
We have the 4th or 5th largest stadium, plus a lot of people who tailgate without tickets. Plus we are hard up against a river

quote:Great idea -- I live 1.8 airmiles from Tiger Stadium -- but one big problem is pedestrian/bike chokepoints around the lakes. For example, Stanford Avenue has sidewalks. Great, except they are 4' wide at best, located right up against the drunk-driver-filled road, certain points along the sidewalk have trees, low-walls, shrubs and trash cans in the way, and crossing Stanford is challenging at best. The path from Stanford along Corporation Canal is nice, but is also narrow and bumpy.

Would be great to clean up the bottoms. It seems like an area ripe for gentrification.

Agreed. It’s the traffic.
Yeah. Like that's new.
What could be new is how stupid people are to think 150,000 people leaving at the same time would NOT lead to traffic.
I quit going because of drunken fools.
Saved a lot of money and enjoy the games at home with neighbors.

The tailgating scene yesterday was subpar. Campus was light for a gameday. Weather was phenomenal but foot traffic was way, way down during the day.

There's definitely some truth to heavy tailgating coupled with a night game wearing people out.
Honestly, feel that the crowd is sometimes more energized for the afternoon games

Traffic is the main issue…and it is a serious issue.. I get it.. I found my solution but will not fault anyone on this topic.
Students tend to leave at half time.. fwiw when I was there and Greek we did not leave early and started partying before lunch.. but we had bands, kegs and jungle juice parties at our houses after the game.. so we stayed and then the party was waiting for us back at the house.. so no reason to leave early..
Students tend to stay on big competitive important games.. Vandy did not rank that ..

quote:The tailgating isn't unique at all nor is the traffic. The stadium capacity is what's changed in the past 40 years. There are twice as many people coming to the game to tailgate and park for the game. There might've even been a bigger tailgaiting culture in the 90's because there weren't as many others with cars competing for the space.
What is unique is just how freaking massive our tailgating is now

Traffic has always been the same though
True, but in thje last 20 years tailgating grew exponentially. More people come on cmpus who are not going to the game but hang out and watch at the tailgate site They are also part of the traffic issues when the game ends.

It’s the roads leaving TS that were designed for Model T’s.
