2011 was great, but Oregon and WV were both games I don't remember feeling like we dominated. We couldn't stop WV. Just like the Georgia game that year, it was Mathieu making game-changing plays.

Was at the NCG in 2011 and the game in Alabama with all the related cousins. The 2011 NCG was pathetic from LSUs standpoint. Embarrassing the way the play calling was done. You don’t beat saban twice in the same season doing the same thing

It used to really bother me but 2019 exorcised those demons

In the midst of my grueling work schedule this week I saw the saints signed honey Badger and was lamenting how 2011 should have been like 2019. And as an added bonus, giving Bama that rematch was the beginning of the end for college football as we knew it. 2019’

If we had won the title in 2011 then 2019 does not happen for a lot of reasons

I wish I could agree, but I think about it every time I think about LSU football. It’s always going to be there.

The Gumps may have won the game that night in New Orleans, but the dudes who tried to fight us afterward got royally destroyed.

I COMPLETELY AGREE. If you switched rosters with Saban and Miles, Saban wins that game by more than the 21 he did win by.

There is ZERO DOUBT we had the better roster. Just another NC pissed away by Less. And he pissed away a few at LSU.

2019 scratched that one out for me.
But until then it was hard to think about.
But seriously, how we were that good with those QBs in 2011 is astonishing to say the least.

Can’t disagree. Les would have built up so much long term capital.

I found myself thinking about 2011

When I think of that game, I think of these things:

Fastest party to ever clear out of the house.

The exodus of JR's and the inability to recruit players that typically committed thereafter.

That Defense was elite & I hope LSU can get back to those types of shut down performances.

I long for the day I can yell once again. "Keep your Punter warmed up!"

Yep, it sucked, but the process definitely named the best team as National Champs, so we just have to suck it up.

Alabama’s “punishment” for losing the game of the century on their home field was…. getting a free pass to the BCS aka “Every Game Counts” National Championship game.

LSU’s “reward” for beating Alabama was having to face a top ten UGA team in the SEC Championship game in order to earn another chance to play the team they already beat for a championship.

Said another way, Bama “only” had to go 1-1 vs LSU with a home game and a neutral game to win the championship.

LSU had to go 3-0 vs Bama & UGA with a road and two neutral games.

I look at other travesties in the history of sports like Roy Jones Jr in 88 or the 72 Olympic basketball team, and the difference is this wasn’t an instant decision but a conspiracy that was openly discussed and advocated for by the pro Bama ESPn Jihad for weeks.

LSU should rightfully claim the 2011 National Championship. I believe that two of the NCAA recognized polling organizations awarded it to US. It’s far more legit than about 8 of the 18 the Gumps claim.

Exactly my thinking. What a scam it was that Alabama was even in that game with a week more of rest

Ive got to stop talking about this before I get worked up on a beautiful Saturday. But man it’s aggravating!

Honestly, 2011 just reminds me of the 2012 reg season game against Bama that ended with the Yeldon screen pass TD. We could’ve Exercised some major demons that day. But let it slip away. That was almost more heartbreaking than the 2011 national championship.

In another timeline we go back to back in 2011-2012 instead of Saban doing it. We were so close to this. Les would have entered the CFP era with 3 natties to Saban’s 2. Wild to think about and wonder how long Les lasts.

I've come to the conclusion if you win the national title in 2011 then 2019 never happens.

I think if we win 1/9/12 that Les gets a 3rd title. We end up winning 2012 vs Bama and have a shot at the title, but we also win a lot of recruiting battles that give us an edge for several years. The promise of that absolutely dominant 2011 national title and two wins over Saban would have carried us to a lot of wins on and off the field vs Bama. And Bama was our only real competition
