They have a shot because they're in the playoff? Okay sure, they have a "shot." About as much of one as SMU or Arizona State have, but sure, they have a "shot."

The irony in this is hilarious. You realize the past includes the man you are defending?

It's been torn apart ad nauseum as to why that is the case for Notre Dame. I won't rehash that same conversation again.

that’s unfortunate

What’s so unfortunate about taking an opportunity that pays the most? Why is that unfortunate for anyone other than the lowest bidders? What’s unfortunate is we’ve spent probably close to $500 million dollars on all of our practice facilities, facility upgrades, locker room and coaching staff, but then somehow don’t have any money to get the best players to use these facilities.

For you types that have trouble with comprehension, he's not saying it's a bad thing for players to get paid. What he's saying is unfortunate is players putting the foundation or meat of what should be the reason you pick a school, such as fit, education, coaching staff, historical development of players at that position, etc. on the backburner and selecting a school that maybe doesn't offer them the best chance for their future because that school is desperate and willing to pay more money upfront.

It would be hypocritical of him to hold that stance and yet have taken more money to go to another program from Notre Dame that didn't offer a better chance to win a championship. Is anyone going to argue that LSU hasn't offered a better chance to win a championship over the last 3 decades than Notre Dame?

When I heard the quote this morning I thought there was some hypocrisy to it. If not from Kelly specifically, then from the coaching community as a whole.

We can argue about Kelly’s specific motivations coming to LSU, but recent CFB history is full of coaches leaving their programs - and their commits - for more money. We have a few on our defensive staff this year. It’s a bit different from players, in that most of these coaches are past the “developmental” phase in their careers, but I don’t think it’s crazy to suggest that there are also clear parallels.

At the same time I don’t think Kelly was bemoaning the state of college football so much as acknowledging the reality of it. So I think it’s a little silly for people to be up in arms about it.

Are you comparing a tenured winning head coach to a 17-18 year old that has proven NOTHING at the collegiate level?

I’m not sure what this has to do with anything I said. He’s doing the same things at LSU as he did at ND. He runs teams out on the field a few games a year that are completely outmatched and unprepared.

From 2017-2021, ND lost 9 games under Kelly. 6 of those 9 losses were to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Michigan. They were overmatched in those games because they didn’t have the talent to compete. 5 of those 6 finished the year in the Top 5 and the other #11. The other losses were to a Cincinnati team that made the CFP, Miami (finished #13), and Stanford (finished #20). They had 8 wins over teams that finished ranked, one over Clemson. So when they were overmatched on talent, they were 1-6. Otherwise they were 7-3 against other teams that finished ranked with no losses to unranked teams. That doesn’t sound like the story you’re trying to tell.

The best part of the press conference was right after that quote when he still thought he worked at Notre Dame and had to scramble and ramble off a few other programs to cover his tracks.

Brian Kelly says it’s going to take us all contributing to NIL for LSU to be successful. I wonder if he (or any other coaches) gives any of his personal money to the NIL collective?

Getting paid is the whole point of the other attributes. I don’t see hypocrisy in this statement. Well he was referring to players as well.

No 28 wins so far in 3 seasons! Wake up! He is a top 5 college coach of all active coaches. Next year is the year that needs to make it to college playoffs

Kelly would only be a hypocrite if he had bailed on negotiations with LSU at the last second to take a pay bump elsewhere.

I do believe Kelly left ND because he wanted to coach in the SEC. Sure the contract doesn’t hurt, but he wasn’t hurting at ND.

The better points are the ones made by posters that he agreed to terms & then honored his agreement — that’s how contracts work.

NSD on the other hand is a shitshow. I cannot imagine doing everything right & building a relationship with a kid over the course of a year + then having the second richest man on earth buy them out at the last hour.
