re: I assume we are competing against Bama in "recruiting" an OC

I think Calloway is the OC. Only thing that makes sense. If a new OC comes in he can’t bring any staff. Staff is all here. The ones from Panthers they are interviewing have not called plays and one has not been a coach. So that doesn’t seem to fit if one is to to OC.. But if Calloway is the OC it all fits.

You know our coach is not over salaries? That’s the AD.

I doubt any other college is considering them.

Nope. Saban is hiring a former NFL head coach and we are looking at a NFL QB coach who has never called plays
I had the same take on the announcement page regarding LSU interviewing Carolina’s QB coach, and I got all but banished.
But you and I are right.
I just hope Coach O knows what he’s doing.

Got to wonder if this is some personal gratification on his part, to raise his own legacy beyond program builder, to coach builder too.
When you’ve accomplished everything you can as a coach, you need to look for more ways to keep yourself busy.

although I wonder if he puts in a backdoor failsafe that he can defeat

Joe Brady says hi...... but thanks for letting us all know

I think he treats them that way
For all their hype, they do seem to be able to build programs, but none of them have beaten him. It's been guys without any ties to him, that he probably can't quite figure out- Les, Urban, Freeze, Gus, Dabo, O etc.

Never seen such an unimaginative offense with that dynamic of a quarterback. Nick can have him. Them mean mugging each other on the sideline will be great!

Are BOB or Gase interviewing for other college jobs?
If so, I haven’t seen it

Idk why you’re getting downvoted, this is true. But then again maybe that’s why!

BOB would be a fun hire to watch him pile drive that midget on the sideline.

If we hired a fired NFL or college coach, our fans would tear him down and call him another retread hire of a guy that was fired for sucking.
The two guys being rumored for Alabama are Bill O'Brien and Adam Gase.
Bill O'Brien hasn't called plays in 10 years when he was the OC for the Patriots. He was the QBs coach two years prior to that for the Patriots. So he was "coaching" Tom Brady to run a system he had been running for a decade. Prior to that one season as OC calling plays for New England, his last gig doing that was in 2005 for Duke. He was fired from Duke after two seasons, where his offenses averaged 16.1 and 14.9 point per game. He hasn't personally run a successful offense since 2002 at Georgia Tech.
His offenses at PSU were average at best. In 2012 they were 7th in the Big 10 in scoring offense and in 2013 they were 8th in scoring offense. He did well for a couple years in Houston after they drafted Deshaun Watson but it took him until 2019, 4th year there, to really break through and have better than a middle of the road or slightly better than middle of the road offense, and that was with one of the better QBs and arguably best WR in the league (before he inexplicably blew all that up in the offseason)
Adam Gase hasn't been in college football since he coached here....in 2002 as....a defensive assistant coach. He's been fired not once, but twice, as coach of the Dolphins and Jets. His offenses have been embarrassing both places, finishing towards the bottom or, this year, dead last in the NFL in scoring offense. His last year as an OC in 2015, he finished right in the middle of the NFL. Of course he did well in Denver as OC with Peyton Manning as his QB. Like O'Brien with Brady, how much coaching do you think that really required?
If LSU hired either one of those guys, our fans would freak out.

Working for Saban or Orgeron? I think LSU would welcome that competition.

maybe, and not just bama. Look how many job openings there are in college and pros.

A combination of both. Are they capable? Sure. But it's about fit, and few college coaches would likely be comfortable with a former NFL head coach and GM as their coordinator, knowing that they would likely jump back to the NFL at first chance.
Also, I doubt either of them would consider any other jobs. Saban has built a reputation for rejuvenating careers.
The main point to the OP was "are competing against Bama in "recruiting" an OC" and the answer is that we are not.

No Bama will get nfl level guys cuz Saban has proven to be a rehab center for ex head coaches
