80 percent of the defense was hurt after the Texas game

The only guys who were really healthy for the season after that point were Queen, Stevens, Stingley, Phillips, Vincent and Shelvin.

Fulton, Delpit, Chaisson, Divinity, Lawrence, Fehoko, Logan were all dealing with injuries throughout the year. Their defensive line and defensive back depth was pretty shot for most of the year. They had Cam Lewis covering Jerry Jeudy for gods sake.

And the defensive actually graded out well. They were near the top in the nation in 3-and-outs, but they struggled with getting gashed for huge scoring plays for the middle half of the season. When they were healthy, which was the end of the season, they gave up 7, 10, 28, and 25 in the last four games. Both Oklahoma and Clemson were top 5 offenses in the country.

Imagine the hilarious melt of Golding left ole Miss to be the LSU dc. (I know it’ll never happen realistically)

Aranda in 2026 isn’t what he was in 2016 to 2019.

Aranda consistently made adjustments in games to fit the flow of the game. He's about as good as it gets. Aranda was a wizard while at LSU. People don't give that guy enough love. He was an amazing DC. I'd love him back. He didn't just forget how to coach.

I don’t want Aranda back.

Not at all. Too risky without a generational quarterback.

Pruitt has a 6 year NCAA show cause in effect until July 14, 2029.

He really struggled to adjust to our offense scoring so frequently and so quickly.

Cole Cubelic was on the Scott Van Pelt show the night of the championship game and told a story about the SECN team's pre-production meeting with Aranda the week of the Northwestern game after LSU had played Texas the week before. He said Aranda walked in the room and said, "Fellas, we can't be what we thought we were going to be — I have to completely redesign this thing."

I say job well done!

How about we just let coach Baker get through half the season before we start with crap like this.

Would you accept Aranda back under Kiffin's coaching rehab clinic at LSU?

If that is how Lane sees it, whatever. Keep in mind that when Baker leaves, there will be a line forming for Lane to interview. That will be a very sought after position.

It’s safe to assume that Lane will definitely promote his brother Chris to DC if and when Blake leaves.

Look at Lane’s track record with his dad. He will most likely want his brother as DC

I would go after Corey Batoon at Missouri, or Shiel Wood at Texas Tech, although he runs a 3-4 instead of a 4-2-5 and the 3-4 doesn't always hold up against SEC running games unless you have ELITE D-lineman and linebackers. For the record, Aranda also runs a 3-4.

But both of these guys would be great if we could pull them away.

Can we just at least wait until after the season actually begins for this?

I think that Chris Kiffin is being groomed under Baker to assume the DC position if this should actually happen. I think this became an option because of how things transpired when Lane was hired. Coach Baker was being considered for Head Coach even before this transition was being made. Why else does Coach Chris have co-DC consideration?

This!… I think Lane recognizes Baker as an innovative and successful young DC that’s up and coming. And if He wants to see his own family member achieve that level of success why not hook Baker and Chris up on his staff for as long as possible so that Chris can have a chance to gain as much from Baker’s style of coordination before he moves on to Head Coach. Lane knew Baker wanted a HC opportunity and almost took it. And probably knows Baker may not be long here. So if Lane really likes the style of defense that Baker orchestrates why not let him pass it on to Coach Chris.
