Caveat everything with "on paper" but also add that these figures don't account for coaching staff which I think is one of the best in CFB. There are some very interesting takeaways. Returning offensive production, including projected starter production put the offense at 22nd.

Defensive production was 2nd nationally.

Hunt notes that projected win total is 8.5 which seems off until you realize that only UGA is as high as 9 and the next top 9 are between 7-9 due to the number of toss up games.

Either way, if we have the #22 offense and 2nd defense, I think LSU is going to far exceed that win total and have a run at the SEC and playoffs.

He probably predicted we go 0-12 because we didn’t retain Frank Wilson

This board’s ability to post the complete opposite of what Hunt says and present it as his opinion continues to fascinate me.

Name checks out. Holy bad takes batman !

I get that you're questioning his opinion. You specifically put the word "guy" in quotes. Are you also questioning if Hunt is even a man?

FWIW. Hunt can sometimes be completely wrong. But his takes are always based on sound logic, personal observation, and research. I haven't necessarily heard him pound his chest when he's right. What I have heard him do, when he completely bombs, is come back, remind you what he said and own up to exactly how bad he missed it.

I'm okay with giving the young man a listen.

I'm interested if he really was concerned about losing Frank Wilson? I would disagree with him on that if that really was his take. I believe LSU got a better coach and the recruiting will be fine.

Is there anything to suggest that returning production is a strong indicator of production? That seems a heavy stretch especially in the year of the portal.

No, he stated that the report indicated that despite productivity projections being high LSU was projected at 8.5 wins and every top team not named UGA was in the same range. Apparently I wasn't clear enough, but that's why I also posted the video. It's due to parity among the top teams. Hunt seemed very optomistic that LSU will exceed that.

When only 1 team sits above that water line you look at other variables, like coaching, schedule, continuity of players. We are in good shape on the 1st 2 metrics and the last remains to be seen.

Phil Steele used to put out a returning production report and it was a good indicator of success. Not perfect by any means. I think from listening to Hunt this one factors overall experience and production inluding transfers. If so, it is a difficlt one to define because players may come from a weaker conference and skew metrics.

It does seem that a majority of our transfers are from P4 schools so hopefully it's a good indicator.

I’m pretty sure that it use to be a pretty big indicator of future success for teams. I agree with you though, it is very likely much less important these days with the portal.
