Canada had such a great track record coming in. His offenses put up lots of points at Pitt. But him and Orgeron were at each other's throats from the start. Would things have gone better or worse if he gives Canada time and lets him call his own system with his qb?

Also, how did Orgeron not know that Canada may be hard to work with. I know Derek recommended him, but did he not do any homework at all?

Matt Canada's offense was childhood playground amateur bullshite.

You run the football goaline to goaline NOT sideline to sideline.

If you want to see jet sweeps working...go watch Pee Wee.

it wouldnt have

O was right on that one. You cant be ultra ultra thin on the DL and having your OC going high speed no huddle and going 3 and out.

it wasnt working and Canada did what he always does and got pissed. only this time he met his match in an equal dumbass hot head in Coach O.

Did Ogeron do his homework on Canada before hiring him?

He probably never even met the guy before Canada showed up for work

LSU would have beaten Troy that season. Otherwise, the results would have been the same.

The bigger question is does LSU get Burrow if Canada is the OC in 2018?

That is not necessarily true. The relationship was severed after the Mississippi St. loss.

You have to go back to 2017. The fan base was, AT VERY BEST, lukewarm on the Orgeron hire. Still, like every offseason, there was optimism going into 2017. The honeymoon ended with Mississippi St kicked LSU's arse up and down the field at a record clip. The criticism of Orgeron being in way over his head came down quickly and Orgeron (privately) blamed the loss on Canada's "weird" offense. That severed relationship directly led to the Troy loss. LSU's offense in the first half that night was noticeably different than what they had done in the prior games. They went back to their usual offense in the second half. It just wasn't enough to overcome the 17-0 hole LSU had dug themselves into.

O was not at the top of the list for the LSU job. He probably wasn't even in the top 5 of candidates. However, he new that was his last shot to ever become a HC and pulled out all the stops to campaign hard for the job. Miles shunned the former players...so O had them leading the team into the stadium down the hill. Miles kept the media away....so O opened up practice and invited any and all media members to show up. Finally, O compiled the famous "binder" to lobby for the job.

The binder proposal essentially consisted of this: O was going to retain Aranda and keep the great defense in place. He was going to stay out of the gameplay approach and simply be a CEO/tremendous recruiter. Finally, he was going to hire the "best OC" around to fix the one problem Miles refused to fix. That guy was Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin fell through, so O had to scramble to keep his first and biggest campaign promise. He HAD to get a "big name" OC. Canada fit the bill as a hot name at the time. He was a Broyles award finalist. Thus, O hired him to make good on his promise. It did not matter that O had no relationship with Canada or really knew much about his offense, and if it would be successful with LSU's personnel in the SEC. He had to deliver on his campaign promise to hire a big name.

Better question about Orgeron: When you don’t know how to manage, and you don’t know that you don’t know, who will follow this lack of knowledge?

Furthermore, let the dirt cover the refuse in the dustbin!!!

It's not like Canada went on to be some superstar Offensive genius. All he had was smoke and mirrors which may work at Pitt because they play weak undisciplined teams. That crap didn't fool anyone in the SEC.

It was still a dumb time and I wonder if O was even the one who hired him.

Do you remember the first touchdown in the 2004 Sugar Bowl? Green averaged 8.3 yards per rush attempt during his career.

D.J. Chark - 10.6
Travin Dural - 8.7
Russell Gage - 8.3

Those types of plays have consistently been some of the most productive running plays in LSU history. They're the conceptual equivalent of the "spread" in the running game.

Being a successful Head Coach in the SEC is difficult. If you add in a bozo for an AD, the major athletic program will be unsteady.

He's collecting a paycheck from the Pittsburgh Steelers, but his offenses have been the worst. Ask any Steelers fan and they'll be beside themselves as to WHY Canada is still there.

You know that dumb frick will use LSU and the Steelers to get all kinds of good jobs. Like even if he gets canned, you know Oklahoma would hire him as the OC
