Except this is over the next 6 years, not 10, not 30 (like the lottery)

You absolutely do not take $24M up front to forfeit $52M over 6 years

That's just called bad math

You don't know what money they have to play with. Sure it sounds unrealistic to your average joe, but the cost of keeping him might not be worth it in the long run.

Brian Kelly at LSU:
-Overall: 34–13 (.72)
-This season: 5–2
-Two losses, both to Top 10 teams
- Combined margin: 12 points

Yall are upset with the contract, but firing him with this record would take a similar or bigger contract to bring in any other coach.

The average Joes are telling the ones that actually write checks, pay $52m for him to go away. $15m for staff to go away. Pay new coach $10m per yr, plus staff and keep paying $20m into NIL collective.

Oh and new coach, you’ll need to win more than 72% of games, if you lose 2 games by a combined 12pts…to top 10 teams, us avg joes will want you gone.

He just has to pretend to work for the next 2 years then the remaining amount on his contract will be about $30 million which is much more affordable for LSU to buyout. Then Kelly gets the full contract amount.

But the next two to three seasons are going to be miserable.

Unless, CBK can bring in another generational talent at the QB position to mask all the coaching deficiencies things are going to be frustrating. Improbable.

The bar has been set of per year money. Wonder if there was a 5 year deal offered? Is there a formula for what you get paid is there a % to what the total football revenue is, including our take from the SEC pie at end of the season, football only. Does LSU football generate a billion dollars? Asking for a friend.

I have heard from some TAF folks that they currently have around $30M of the $50M needed to buy BK out.

To add to your point, O was not Woodward's guy so he was likely drooling for the opportunity to kick him to the curb so he could bring in his own guy. He has his guy now and is going to give him every benefit of the doubt he can.

No…. If that’s the case I’ll just be a lame duck do the bare minimum to avoid being fired for cause…. They’ll get tired of it and pay me the 52 to do no work…. Or whatever the buyout is at the point they get tired of waiting….

Exactly how much work does he do? Screaming on the sidelines during games? These head coaches are like Kings. They have staff and assistant coaches to do every facet of the game. Probably including shining his shoes for him. Kings only abdicate because of fear or weakness.

There was way more shite on O and he got paid his full contract.

How many lawsuits was LSU defending at that time? How many NCAA investigations were ongoing? The only current lawsuit I'm aware of is the Brooks family and it seems pretty weak. At the time it was important to keep O happy.

But quibbling over buyouts is still a bad look when you're looking to hire a new coach. The prospective hires aren't mad at the old coach like the fans are. But they're watching closely as to how he's treated on the way out.

That's every big job, though. If you want $10M a year, that's the deal.

I was in Nashville for the game. Talked to a guy that donates NIL to football and baseball. That mercy kneel absolutely destroyed any confidence a majority of the money guys had left.

On top of a $52M buyout, some of y’all aren’t comprehending the absurd optics of firing him or the difference from those other programs. Brian Kelly at LSU: -Overall: 34–13 (.72) -This season: 5–2 -Two losses, both to Top 10 teams - Combined margin: 12 points

Don’t know why people keep posting this like it means something.

No one is expecting him to get fired today at 5-2.

People want him fired after he goes 6-6/7-5 with a roster that was supposed to promise a playoff berth at minimum.

At which point we will have been on a massive downward trajectory with reports of poor work ethic and coordinator hiring issues on both sides of the ball.

Who cares about mainstream criticism? I care about what the university and the donors think.

Possibly the biggest obstacle right now is that we don’t have a university president.

Exactly. We just lost to Ole Miss and Vandy……some of you truly think we will beat A&M at home with a running qb after watching Saturday’s game. Then, bama and OU on the road………yet the ones wanting Kelly fired are up surd????? We are ABSOLUTELY finishing this season with 5 losses. Keeping Kelly another year for the same product will cost lsu 10$ million either in buy out money to start over or in revenue because the stadium will be empty next year more so than it has been this year.
Next point oh the average joes with nothing invested want him fired but the guys that writes LSU million dollar checks so the football team can win don’t…….some of your so called smart guys are dumber than a box of rocks so please stop acting smarter than anyone else because you’re not.

You bring up interesting stats for the emotionally impaired.

Saban @ LSU. 75% win pctg
Saban @ Bama 85%
Kiffin @ OM 66%
Kiffin @ P4 67%

I put Saban in for a benchmark purposes. One could argue Kiffin is trending up and BK is trending down. But with BK at LSU 4 yrs and Kiffin at OM 6 yrs BK has out performed LK. Perception is Kiffin is hot and BK is not.

Not pushing one way or the other but when people spend $53 mil in dead money to fire a coach and another $100 mil to hire a coach somebody is going to have to put up those numbers and justify the expenditures.

Why? Because BK may take less to walk. 25 million to go play golf? Why not when the alternative is to stay where everyone hates you. Also there’s a very good chance we have dirty laundry on him that could help us negotiate a smaller buy out.

Until proven otherwise this is just fan fiction to produce hope.
