First game was in 1958 and I really have expected a National Championship every year since.
No one tailgated back then, but my dad toted his boys up into the southeast end zone in the "Family" section $3.00 seats. Always toted a grocery bag packed with a hot dog, hamburger, home roasted peanuts, and a couple of cokes for each of his 5 sons. He always made a comment about those gd prices at the concessions
So, now when i see everyone calling for Miles head and having "all" the answers themselves, I just kinda chuckle. Nice post

My first game was 1956, my freshman year at LSU. Texas A&M 9 - LSU 6. Besides having a shaved head, freshman students wore pajamas to the first game. My picture is in the yearbook. I'm wearing a necktie to go with my pajamas and freshman beanie cap.

I started really following LSU in '98 when I was 8 and my first LSU game was 2000 in the swamp. Unfortunately LSU got beat up.

I remember the two point conversion against Ole Miss in the early 60s?

My first favorite player was Andy Hamilton. My first days was listening to John Ferguson on the radio. Players like John Wood, Eddie Ray. Tommy Cantrell, Tommy Casanova, Bevan, Anderson, and on and on.

1981 LSU v Auburn

My perspective led me to want and demand our program be what we should be, consistent winners. In my mind, consistent is a record of 8-4 on a down year and to compete for the SEC championship at least every three to four years. That's not mediocrity, its reality, for everyone in the long term of a program. This is especially true in our conference, which is loaded with schools with great tradition, talent bases, resources, and coaches.

Mississippi State in 1998. I sat on the 5th or 6th row around the 20 yard line with my dad and younger brother. We crushed them. I've been hooked ever since.

More than two losing seasons? Are you fricking kidding? LSU should practically never have a losing season, let alone more than two.

We generally play at least six or seven games a year against teams that just don't have the resources to be able to compete against a team like LSU. Generally, our OOC schedule is composed of this type of team, with few exceptions. So, we should basically never do any worse than 3-1 outside the conference.

In conference play, we have Mississippi State and Ole Miss every year, and either Vandy, Kentucky or South Carolina from the east every year. We should rarely lose to these teams and should almost never lose to two of them in the same year, so that's three games a year in which we should basically never be worse than 2-1.

That leaves us at no worse than 5-2 with five games to play against teams with resources comparable to ours. In our worst years, we should at least be able to win one of those games, which gets us to 6 wins at a minimum in a year when everything goes wrong that could possibly go wrong.

That worst-case scenario should happen only very rarely, and even in those rare instances when it does, it should still only mean a 6-6 or 7-5 season, but practically never a losing season. And you would excuse not only one, but two losing seasons? That is ridiculous.
